The Nissan Terra is a mid-size SUV produced by the Japanese automaker Nissan since 2018. The vehicle is little known because it was created for China and the countries of Southeast Asia. It occupies the niche of the former Pathfinder between the Nissan Armada and X-trail. For those who didn’t know, “Terra” translates as land.

Nissan Armada 2020. SUV 5-door, 2 generation, restyling.

The rear- or all-wheel drive 5-door Nissan Terra SUV follows the ‘classic canons’: a body-on-frame structure, a continuous rear axle and an all-wheel drive system. Its potential buyers are middle-aged family men who make trips to nature and want to get a ‘full-fledged off-road vehicle’, or at least that’s what marketers think. The new Nissan Terra has borrowed the exterior and interior style from the famous Nissan Navara pickup, but the Terra is aimed primarily at Asian countries, where such vehicles are popular with a wide audience.

Israeli buyers can purchase a new 4th generation Nissan Navara pickup restyled in 2021. It is equipped with a 2.3-liter turbocharged diesel engine with an output of 190 hp, equipped with two turbochargers. Nissan claims this is the unique offer in the segment. The engine is paired with a 7-speed hydromechanical automatic transmission (which is currently rare). The vehicle is all-wheel drive. It has a locking rear differential.

The first generation

This nice, Asian-style vehicle is based on the Nissan Navara pickup (the 2014 D23 generation, which is available in Israel in the version restyled in 2021). The first official information about the vehicle appeared on March 15, 2018. The release of the model was delayed due to the emergence of a numerous number of new similar models, such as the Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Ford Everest, and the Isuzu MU-X.

The Nissan Terra is 4,885 mm long, 1,865 mm wide and 1,835 mm high, and has a wheelbase of 2,850 mm. The ground clearance reaches 225 mm. The chassis and suspension provide passengers with more comfort and improve the handling and agility of the model.

The new Nissan Terra was equipped with gasoline and turbocharged diesel engines. The gasoline engine is represented by a 4-cylinder QR25DE unit with an output of 180 hp. There are two diesel engines: 2.3-liter 4-cylinder (model YS23DDTT (188 hp) and 2.5-liter 4-cylinder YD25DDTi (188 hp) units. The engines can be paired with a 6-speed manual and 7 -speed automatic transmission. Like the Navara, the vehicle was equipped with an all-wheel drive system.

Terra in different markets

On May 28, 2018, sales began in the Philippines. For the Philippines, the Nissan Terra has become a little larger and is 7-seater. On August 2, the model debuted in the Indonesian market and was presented at the Indonesian International Motor Show. It has the same characteristics as the Philippine model. Sales started on December 21st. In Thailand, the vehicle appeared on August 16, where it was offered only with a 2.3-liter diesel engine. Since the beginning of 2019, the vehicle has been available in the Brunei market.

Note that the model for China is slightly different. It was first presented at the Beijing International Auto Show in April 2019. It is a bit shorter and a little narrower: the length of the body is 4,882 mm, the width is 1,850 mm, the height and other parameters are the same.
