Renault Koleos SUV. 2nd generation, 2020 restyling
The Renault Koleos is a compact SUV from Renault. It has been produced since 2007. Currently, you can buy the second generation that underwent restyling in 2020. In Israel, there are two design variants of this vehicle. The current generation debuted in 2016 and was restyled twice to better meet customer needs.
Exterior
The 2020 restyled Renault Koleos attracts attention with its body shape, muscular and convex shapes, high front bumper and advanced headlights that look aggressive and are decorated with ‘brackets’ of the running lights. The hood is adorned with numerous sloping edges, and the radiator grille is chrome-plated. The profile is also good: there is an ascending belt line, a slightly sloping roof, and a graceful spoiler that decorates the rear, giving the car a finished appearance. The wheel arches are impressive. The vehicle can boast of eye-catching taillights.
The SUV is 4,672 mm long, 1,843 mm wide and 1,673 mm high. The wheelbase is 2,705 mm, and the ground clearance is 210 mm. After the restyling, the front bumper has changed, acquiring the following innovations: a horizontal chrome strip, a silver insert at the very bottom, new design of niches for fog lights. By the way, the latter are now shining with LEDs. The rear bumper has also been upgraded, that is, its lower part and decor that mimics the exhaust pipes.
Interior
The passenger compartment of the new Renault Koleos is comfortable and finished with excellent materials. The design is quite familiar to those who have Renault cars: a 7-inch (Intense) or 8.7-inch (Initiale Paris) ‘tablet’ of the R-Link multimedia system, three-spoke multi-steering wheel, and a familiar 7-inch display in the instrument cluster. However, there are still the same window regulator buttons, where the backlight and ‘auto’ mode are available only for the driver’s window. But the top-end Initiale Paris now has high-quality Nappa leather trim.
The passenger compartment can easily sit five passengers. The front seats are especially good. Firstly, these are wide and soft, comfortable and cozy, heated and ventilated seats. But there’s one “but”: taller drivers may lack seat distance adjustment. Secondly, there is a retractable leg support in the lower part of the seat, and a beautiful diamond-shaped finish and head rest covers in the upper part of the backrest. By the way, the front panel and doors have a “diamond” pattern, which looks much more interesting than the previous glossy inserts.
It is also important to note a curious improvement at the rear: it is now possible to adjust the angle of the backrest. However, there are only two positions. Plus, there are other well-known useful elements: sufficient legroom, armrest and cup holders, ventilation deflectors, and heated seats. The trunk is wide and deep (450 liters), and it increases to 1,380 liters with the seats folded down. This operation is surprisingly easy thanks to the Easybreak handles located in the rear of the trunk.
Engines and trim levels
In Israel, the 2020/2021 Renault Koleos is sold with a 1.75 liter diesel engine (in other markets, this engine is replaced by a 1.3 TCe 158 hp turbo petrol engine). This engine allows the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 11.8 seconds and up to a maximum value of 190 km/h; fuel consumption is only 6.3 l/100 km in the combined cycle. These SUVs have a 7-speed EDC semi-automatic dual-clutch transmission and only front-wheel drive. They come in two trim levels: the well-equipped Intense and the expensive Initiale Paris.
The INTENSE trim level includes a front parking sensor, an Easy Break system for quickly folding the rear seats, the R-Link 2 multimedia with a 7-inch display and an 8-speaker Arkamys 3D Sound system.
If you want to have leather interior trim, you need the Initiale Paris that also provides: the R-Link 2 multimedia system with an enlarged 8.7-inch display, contoured LED interior lighting, electric drive, ventilated and heated front seats, Bose Surround audio system with 12 speakers and a subwoofer, automatic parking system and electric drive of the fifth door, traffic sign detection and automatic high beam control. The vehicles have different wheels of 18 (Intense) or 19 inches (Initiale Paris). The top version also has full LED headlights and tinted rear windows.
