Renault KWID. Affordable crossover hatchback
The Renault KWID is a compact five-door crossover-style hatchback, which has been produced since 2015. The vehicle was created for India, but has already traveled beyond its borders. And its electric version for Europe is known under the Dacia Spring name. Neither the Renault KWID nor the Renault Spring is available in Israel. But that is no reason not to get acquainted with the French subcompact hatchback, which has already gained popularity in the world market. We will wait for the Dacia Spring electric car based on the modernized KWID will appear in Israel.
The price of 3,885 US dollars is the main advantage of this model. Moreover, the KWID is a full-fledged car, the design of which is already familiar to Israelis from the Dacia Sandero, Dacia Duster and Dacia Logan MCV models. Yes, you cannot call it large due to its subcompact dimensions. The car is 3.68 m long, 1.58 m wide and 1.48 m high, and has a wheelbase of 2,422 mm. However, it is even slightly larger than the tiny rear-engined Renault Twingo, which is sold in many European countries.

The new electric Renault KWID is equipped with a 44 hp electric motor that is mounted on the front axle and is powered by a 27.4 kWh battery, which guarantees a driving range of 230 km. The maximum speed is 125 km/h. In China, this car is sold under the name Renault City K-ZE. And in mid-2022, the electric KWID will appear in Brazil and promises to become the cheapest electric car there.
The KWID has an impressive 180 mm ground clearance that makes it akin to many SUVs. The gasoline-powered hatchback is equipped with a 0.8-liter 3-cylinder SCe engine producing 54 hp, coupled with a manual transmission. The car is front-wheel drive. Later, the range of engines has acquired a larger 1.0-liter 3-cylinder SCe engine, paired with a 5-speed Easy-R robotic gearbox. The result is a fuel-efficient (from 4 l/100 km) and affordable car.
The top-end version of the new Renault KWID offers a decent set of useful equipment: power steering, front power windows, air conditioning, fog lights, keyless entry system, central locking and even an advanced MediaNAV multimedia system with Bluetooth, USB, AUX-input and 7-inch color touch screen. But the driver’s airbag is an option. The modernized 2020/2021Renault Quid has become more comfortable on the inside and prettier on the outside. The compact car offers a lidded glove box, a new three-spoke steering wheel, a modernized front panel, and more comfortable seats.
