Renault Sandero. Logan’s hatchback version

Renault Sandero 2018. Bodywork, Exterior. Hatchback 5-door, 2 generation, restyling

The Renault Sandero is a five-door hatchback based on the Logan sedan chassis, built on the B0 platform. It is sold in Israel under the Dacia brand. Renault’s marketers wanted to attract those buyers who were satisfied with the driving and performance qualities of the Renault Logan affordable compact sedan, but were deterred by the angular design of this famous and very popular model.

Dacia Sandero 2016. Hatchback 5-door, 2 generation, restyling.

Until 2020, Israeli buyers could purchase the second generation Dacia Sandero Hatchback after the restyling in 2016. It could be equipped with one of two 1.0-liter gasoline engines: a turbocharged unit with 90 hp and a regular engine with 73 hp. The turbocharged engine was supplemented with a 5-speed robotic gearbox, while the regular one was coupled with a 5-speed manual transmission. We will soon see the third generation car.

The first generation

The manufacturer started developing the Renault Sandero back in 2005, but its full-scale production was launched in December 2007 at the Brazilian plant of Renault. The Sandero premiered at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show. The Sandero hatchback began to be produced in Europe under the Dacia brand in the spring of 2008. In 2009, the car also reached Russia. The Sandero and Logan are about 70% unified, have a common range of powertrains and transmissions. The first generation Renault Sandero was distinguished by a wheelbase shortened to 2,591 mm (2,630 mm for the Logan) and a different, more ‘energetic’ appearance, inspired by the Renault Scenic. The hatchback’s trunk was smaller than that of the sedan: 320 liters versus 520, but the absence of a partition between the trunk and the passenger compartment, a wide luggage compartment opening and the ability to fold the rear seat increased the usable space to 1,200 liters.

The hatchback was 4,020 mm long, 1,753 mm wide and 1,534 mm high, and has a ground clearance of 155 mm. The Sandero was indeed a small hatchback weighing only 1,025-1,204 kg. The base engine was a 1.4-liter 8-valve gasoline engine with an output of 75 hp, and the ‘senior’ 1.6-liter engine could be in both 8-valve (84 HP) and 16-valve (102 HP) modifications. The version of the car with a 1.6-liter 16-valve engine is available with both a 5-speed manual transmission and an automatic transmission. The car was produced in three trim levels.

The second generation

A new generation of the Logan sedan and Sandero hatchback was unveiled at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. The new Renault Sandero conquered not only South America, but also the more demanding Great Britain: in January 2013, the Renault Sandero was awarded ‘Best Small Car for under £12,000’ by What Car? magazine. Over the next two years, the car proved its worth by winning the award again.

The second Sandero was 4,057 mm long, 1,733 mm wide and 1,523 mm high, and had a wheelbase of 2,589 mm. The car weighed, depending on the version, from 1,016 to 1,237 kg. The hatchback could be equipped with 0.9-liter gasoline (3-cylinder), 1.2-liter/1.6-liter 4-cylinder or 1.5-liter diesel engines.

2018 restyling

The restyled car looks more attractive and features modernized bumpers, headlights and a radiator grille. The daytime running lights are LED, and the taillights have four rectangular sections. There is a new 4-spoke steering wheel. Plus, you can have a rear-view camera for an additional fee. Moreover, instead of the 1.2-liter engine (4 cylinders, 75 hp), the 2021 Renault Sandero now has a 1.0-liter 3-cylinder SCe engine with the same output. It is stated that it is 10% more fuel-efficient than its predecessor and meets Euro-6 standards.
