2020 Citroën C4 Hatchback. 3rd generation
The Citroën C4 is a compact crossover hatchback, produced since 2004. In Israel, the new C4 is represented by the 3rd generation model (released in 2020) with a gasoline or diesel engine, as well as an electric motor. We would like to tell you not only about its appearance and driving characteristics, but also why you should choose it.
The current generation that belongs to the C-segment has been produced since 2020 after a two-year pause. From 2018 to 2020, this niche in Citroën’s model range was occupied by the Cactus crossover hatchback, from which the new Citroën C4 inherited some design elements. Just look at a defiant protective body kit made of unpainted plastic that surrounds the perimeter of the car. Another striking feature is the stylish sloping arched roofline and tilted rear window in the style of coupe crossovers. Given that the C4 also has an electric version, the modern urban hatchback, like a real Frenchman, follows current trends.
Exterior
The front end looks especially eye-catching and memorable. Two-story optics with narrow ‘eyebrows’ and large units at the bottom are fully LED. The 2020/2021 Citroën C4 is larger than the second generation hatchback: 31mm longer (4,360 mm), 11 mm wider (1,800 mm) and 36 mm taller (1,525 mm). An additional 62 mm in the wheelbase (2,670 mm in total) promises excellent knee room for rear passengers. However, just like its predecessor, the car has a small trunk of 380 liters (loading height - 715 mm). The C4 is based on the CMP platform, shared with the 2008 Peugeot and Opel Mokka. When designing the platform, engineers provided for the electrification of its models with a front-wheel drive system and a semi-dependent rear suspension.
The ground clearance of the crossover hatchback is 156 mm, which is more than that of many similar models of this class (the second generation car offers 135 mm). Therefore, the new C4 looks elevated above the road, and features the 16, 17 or 18-inch wheels. Citroën has given its model a wide range of personalization options: you can decorate the body with one of 31 options. Moreover, 5 packages of contrasting overlays are offered.
Interior
There are six interior design options. The interior looks very stylish and modern. There is white contour lighting. The front panel is made of plastic with different textures with glossy black and matt chrome inserts. The digital dashboard and the 10-inch touchscreen multimedia system are frameless. There are the standard comfortable rotary knobs. The dual-zone climate control knobs are rotating. Against their background, a small 3-position switch, which plays the role of a gearbox selector, looks not quite familiar. Next to it are the buttons for parking, selecting the manual mode of the gearbox and car settings (Eco, Normal, Sport).
The new Citroën C4 is praised for comfort, convenience, smoothness, economy, and maneuverability
Of special note is the Smart Pad Support for the front passenger and a soft non-slip drawer to store your device when you don’t need it. The car features a head-up display. The list of options includes front seats with massage, electric steering wheel and windshield heating. Sophisticated ergonomics include 19 niches, shelves and containers with a total capacity of 39 liters.
Powertrains
The new Citroën C4 comes with 1.2-liter PureTech 3-cylinder gasoline engines. Israeli buyers can purchase the versions with 130 hp engines. For those who want a diesel engine, there is a 1.5-liter BlueHDi engine with 110 or 130 hp, the latter is available in Israel. The car comes standard with a 6-speed manual transmission, but the hatchback is supplied to Israel with a new 8-speed automatic transmission by Aisin (Japan). The new Citroën C4 is praised for its comfort, convenience, smoothness, economy, and maneuverability.
Equipment
The 2021 Citroën C4 version for Israel is called Shine. It includes 6 airbags, a tire pressure sensor, an ESP stabilization system, a rear view camera and a panoramic roof, and much more. The C4s are equipped with Highway Driver Assist, which includes adaptive cruise control with lane keeping assist and car parking, as well as a collision avoidance system with pedestrian detection and traffic sign recognition, and a driver fatigue monitoring sensor. Owners of the new C4 claim that ‘the car is small but efficient, dynamic and easy to park.’
