The Hyundai Elantra is a compact sedan manufactured since 1990. In South Korea it is known as the Avante. In 2021, Israeli buyers can purchase the seventh generation of the model.

Exterior

The new Hyundai Elantra has changed its image again. Compared to the previous generation, this small sedan has become 30 mm longer (4,650 mm), 25 mm wider (1,825 mm) and 20 mm lower (1,420 mm). The front overhang is now slightly shorter, while the rear, on the contrary, is longer. The wheelbase is 2,720 mm, which is 20 mm more than before. The legroom for rear passengers has increased by 58 mm. The trunk volume reaches 458 liters.

Interestingly, ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ is how the manufacturer describes the design of the 2020/2021 Hyundai Elantra. The front grille resembles the 2018 Hyundai Le Fil Rouge concept, the sides and rear end feature numerous edges and broken lines, and the sloping rear window and roof pillars make the sedan look similar to the fastback. Thanks to the rearward-shifted interior, the sloping roofline and rear window, the silhouette looks more dynamic. The 15-, 16- or 17-inch wheels are available.

Interior

The new generation car offers a more spacious interior. The seats are slightly lower than those of the previous model. Even the standard trim level includes instruments with an analog speedometer and an 8-inch screen of the media system with manual keys and handles on the sides. And the expensive versions feature an unusual panel, comprising under the same glass two 10.25-inch screens: one for devices, the other for multimedia. This solution differs from most interiors, where the multimedia ‘tablet’ proudly sticks up, clearly being out of the general decoration. The display of the media system supports wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Powertrains

The new Elantra comes to Israel with a 1.6 liter MPI petrol naturally-aspirated engine with 127 hp, coupled with a CVT.

Fuel consumption is 7.1 liters per 100 km in the combined cycle, it takes 11.6 seconds for the car to accelerate to 100 km/h. The car features a MacPherson strut suspension at the front and a semi-independent beam at the rear. The developers have managed to lower the center of gravity, which, taking into account the reconfigured steering and the new suspension mounting scheme, should make the steering more responsive.

Equipment

Israeli buyers can purchase the Inspire SR version of the 2021/2022 Hyundai Elantra. It offers the Hyundai Smart Sense safety package. It includes: Forward Collision Avoidance System, Blind Spot Monitoring System, Rear Cross Traffic Collision Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist and Smart Cruise. This is an adaptive cruise control that responds to road conditions by slowing down your car to match the speed of the vehicle in front or accelerating to a pre-set speed.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wireless protocols have already been announced for the basic media system, there is also a Digital Key function, which allows you to use a smartphone with an NFC tag and a special application installed to unlock the car and start the engine. The car also has a sunroof, a rearview camera and power mirrors with turn signal repeaters.
