2018 Skoda Scala Hatchback. 1st generation
Skoda Scala is a compact 5-door C-class hatchback from the Czech automobile maker, Skoda. After its debut in 2018 in Tel Aviv, the new Scala immediately impressed car enthusiasts and experts. Choice of Tel Aviv for the Skoda Scala show was deliberate. After all, it is one of the largest transport hubs in the world, where innovative technologies and start-up companies are rapidly developing. The place of the premiere of Skoda hints that its new product is versatile and innovative.
The 2018/2019 Skoda Scala hatchback is 4,362 mm long and 1,793 mm wide, while its wheelbase is 2,649 mm, which provides enough space for passengers. For bulky loads, the trunk volume of 429 liters can easily turn into 1,410 liters.
Distinctive features
The Scala hatchback is the first Skoda model in Europe to have a large lettering on the back instead of a company emblem. Plus, it is the first model of the company to embody the brand’s new design language. The company’s chief designer, Oliver Stefani, says that after the Scala, all the Skodas should be visually ‘powerful and emotional’. The interior of the new hatchback comprises more than 30 Simply Clever signature elements, from an umbrella in the driver’s door to a customizable boot floor, from pull-out tables in the backrests of the front seats to anchor nets, all kinds of pockets and USB ports in the front and in the back. The vehicle has a bunch of electronic assistants, for example, the optional Side Assist system, which monitors cars approaching from behind at a distance of up to 70 m (50 m farther than Blind Spot Detect). There are optional parking aid and adaptive cruise control, which operates at speeds up to 210 km/h.
Modifications
In Israel, the new Skoda Scala is supplied as a front-wheel drive vehicle only, but with two petrol and one diesel engine options to choose from. All engines are turbocharged and are complemented by a 7-speed semi-automatic transmission. The petrol options include a 1.0-liter 115 hp engine that provides a speed of 199 km/h and a 1.5-liter engine with 150 hp, accelerating the hatchback to 219 km/h. At the same time, their average fuel consumption per 100 km is almost the same - 5.0-5.1 liters. A 1.6-liter 115 hp diesel engine can produce 200 km/h, consuming, on average, only 4.1 liters per 100 km.
Trim versions
Israeli buyers of the 2020 Skoda Scala can choose from 3 trim versions for the petrol modification of the hatchback and one trim version for the diesel modification. All trims of the new Skala have a fairly wide range of options. But, perhaps, the Skoda Scala Sport is the most advanced of them, offering sports seats, with a choice of driving modes, a blind spot monitoring system, R 18 discs, a sunroof, and a panoramic roof.
