The Kia Stonic is popular in Israel. Introduced in 2017, the vehicle made it to Israel and became the 8th brand’s bestseller in 2018. In 2019, it climbed up to the 4th place and holding this position in 2020. The subcompact SUV with a 4.1 m long body and a 2.5 m wheelbase was sold in Israel with 1 liter GDI and 1.4 MPI engines. In 2020, the model was restyled, acquiring new equipment. Let’s find out more about all the changes.

Exterior and interior

The 2020/2021 Kia Stonic features new running lights. The headlights and front face are the same, but the double stripes, located one above the other in parallel, change the ‘facial expression’. Such an important and noticeable part of the exterior as the wheel rims has become more diverse. Interestingly, it is now possible to choose a roof in a contrasting color.

The restyled SUV features a fresher interior design. First of all, it is worth noting a more modern infotainment system with new features and an 8-inch display (instead of 7-inch), an increased size of the dashboard and new trim options.

Powertrains

In Israel, the new Kia Stonic is still available with a 1.4 liter MPI engine. But now the 1.0 T-GDI modification (EcoDynamics+) is equipped with a 1-liter turbocharged engine paired with an electric 48-volt superstructure, and this unit develops 120 hp. In this system, the starter-generator, which supplies energy to the lithium-ion traction battery, uses energy recovery during braking and turns off the petrol engine when coasting. During acceleration, the starter helps the engine to reduce fuel consumption. The petrol engine itself is not simple: it is a modern turbocharged unit equipped with direct injection and a CVVD valve opening timing system.

The vehicle is still equipped with a 7-speed semi-automatic transmission, and with both engines, the Stonic has a choice of driving electronics modes. There are three modes: Eco, Normal or Sport. The Stonic T1.0 consumes 5.7-6 liters per 100 km in the combined cycle, whereas the Stonic 1.4 l consumes 6.6-6.8 liters.

Equipment

The restyled SUV has become safer thanks to 6 airbags and driver assistance systems. The automatic braking system now recognizes not only pedestrians, but also cyclists, and the lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control systems work at speeds up to 180 km/h.
