Israeli buyers can currently purchase a new Renault Kadjar with a 1.5-liter turbocharged diesel engine with an output of 116 hp, coupled with a 7-speed dual-clutch EDC robotic gearbox. In 2021, the compact SUV costs about 152,111 shekels (including a vehicle registration fee). It is quite handy, comfortable and very fuel-efficient. Moreover, it is well-equipped, featuring a power pack, leather steering wheel, RLINK 2 multimedia system, including a 7-inch touch screen, navigation system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functions, as well as a Hebrew interface, front and rear parking sensors, cruise control, electric handbrake and light and rain sensors. There is a panoramic roof with an electric blind, tire pressure sensors and a variety of security systems: traction control system, climb assistant, lane departure warning system, ABS with EBD and BAS, etc.

But, despite its relatively low cost and superb equipment, the sales volumes of the Renault Kadjar, which debuted in 2018, are mediocre. Therefore, at the end of 2021, Renault announced a new Austral SUV to replace the Renault Kadjar. It will look completely different, rather reminiscent of the exterior of the Renault Megane E-Tech, which appeared in September 2021. Renault continues to surprise everyone with its model names. Before the world had time to digest ‘Kadjar’, marketers came up with an equally mysterious name for the future model. ‘Austral’ comes from the word ‘australis’, which in Latin means ‘southern’. Apparently, such a name is well suited for an off-road vehicle, it is easy to pronounce and sounds international. As a matter of curiosity, will they choose a different name for Australia?

The new Renault Austral is built on the CMF-C modular platform, used by the current Nissan Qashqai, which is more successful in terms of sales than its ‘sibling’ from Renault. The Renault Austral will be 4,510 mm long and will have a 5-seater interior. The vehicle will feature a 1.3-liter turbocharged gasoline engines equipped with compact electric superstructures (‘mild hybrid’ scheme). The manufacturer plans on releasing the hybrid versions, as well as fully electric modifications.
