Electric Chery eQ5. Able to power your house
The Chery eQ5 is a compact electric SUV produced by Chery Automobile since August 2020. The exterior design of the Pininfarina studio attracts attention, and the ‘face’ with a characteristic false grille indicates that it is a battery-powered vehicle. The model is rear-wheel drive with two engine options. The model is favorably distinguished by the presence of an on-board 220-volt converter, which can power not only household appliances, but also a small house. The vehicle not only powers your home, but it also has a large wheelbase to give you plenty of interior space.
The Chery EQ5 also has a second name, derived from the "ant" hieroglyph. The Chinese call it Big Ant, because there is also a small ant, the eQ1 subcompact.
The Chery eQ5 is 4,630 mm long, 1,910 mm wide and 1,655 mm high. It is in the same segment as the Nissan X-Trail and Mitsubishi Outlander models. But, as noted above, the electric SUV is favorably distinguished by a large wheelbase equal to 2,830 mm. These distances are provided by the new modular platform LFS (Lightweight Frame Structure). The body of the vehicle is made of aluminum, which continues the theme of lightness introduced by the platform.
Exterior
The new Chery eQ5 resembles electric models from Hyundai and IONIQ. A front end with three-stage architecture and the arched edges of the hood immediately catch the eye. Admittedly, the vehicle looks aggressive and slightly soulless. Everything else is typical: a slightly sloping roof, a rising window line, a bulging rear end and taillights with a strip across the entire door that unites them. The image is complemented by large wheels in square arches decorated with unpainted plastic.
Interior
The Chery eQ5 has a fully digital dashboard and a multimedia system with new features like voice recognition. The screens of both units have a diagonal of 12.3 inches. There’s also a fast Qi wireless charger and an air quality control unit. The modern layout offers a flat floor, leaving a storage compartment with a volume of 60 liters at the front. The capacity of the main trunk is from 386 to 1250 liters.
The 2022 Chery eQ5 is well equipped. It features a level 2 autopilot, based on 20 sensors. The driver is assisted by adaptive cruise control, parking assistant, forward collision avoidance system, surround view system and lane keeping assist system. Equipment includes a tinted panoramic roof, electric, heated and ventilated front seats. In addition, as we have already said, the eQ5 received an on-board 220-volt converter that can power not only household appliances, but also a small house.
Engines
Buyers of the Chery eQ5 in China can choose between two engines with the return of 178 or 204 hp. An electric motor is installed on the rear axle, although the platform allows the installation of a second. The battery is hidden under the floor. The range with a junior engine is 510 km. The SUV has a McPherson-type suspension in the front and a multi-link suspension in the rear.
