The 2017 fifth generation SEAT Ibiza Hatchback
The SEAT Ibiza is a subcompact five-door five-seat hatchback with a long history. In 2021, the Israeli market offers the fifth generation of this car in four trim levels with one engine, available with two boosting options.
The Ibiza can probably be called the main SEAT model. The fifth generation of this car was presented on the last day of January 2017 at a special event in Barcelona. Interestingly, it ceased to have its three-door and universal modifications, and got on a new platform, shared with the Volkswagen Polo.
Exterior
The new Ibiza is the spitting image of the older Leon model: its design can be described as ‘sharp’, as its lean body is literally truncated by ribs and edges. The hatchback looks beautiful, bold, sporty and harmonious. Such things as the cold stare of the headlights with broken LED sections of the running lights, the energetic silhouette with the embossed ‘folds’ on the sides and the ‘lifting-off’ sill line, the graceful stern with fanciful taillights and the curly bumper make the five-door hatchback look good from all angles.
The 5th generation Ibiza has typical B-class dimensions, being 4,050 mm long, 1,444 mm high and 1780 mm wide. A 2,564 mm wheelbase fits between the axles of the car. The Israeli market offers seven metallic body colors, as well as plain white.
Interior
The interior of the 2017/2018 SEAT Ibiza model does not shine with originality. A solid product of the ‘German school’ looks laconic, geometrically correct, and attractive. The center console is slightly turned towards the driver and has a multimedia system screen with a diameter of 5 or 8 inches and a perfect climate system unit. The discreet dashboard of this five-door model is designed in a manner that is typical for SEAT vehicles, implying downward-oriented ‘sleeping’ arrows, and a three-spoke steering wheel with a raised rim is installed directly in front of it. In terms of ergonomics, the car’s interior decoration is thought out to the smallest detail and tailored with the use of high-quality materials.
The 2018/2019 SEAT Ibiza can boast of the perfect adjustable front seats that have a comfortable profile with noticeably developed side bars and a pillow of optimal length. The backseat is suitable for two passengers, while the third passenger may feel uncomfortable because of a high floor tunnel. The trunk of this Spanish model can normally hold up to 355 liters of luggage, which is very good for this class. The back of the rear row folds into a completely flat cargo area, which significantly increases the capacity of Ibiza to transport bulky items.
Power trains and chassis
In Israel, the 2019/2020 SEAT Ibiza comes with one power train with two boosting options. The basic version is a turbocharged 1.0-liter 3-cylinder TSI petrol engine, 12-valve timing and direct injection, developing 95 hp. With it, the acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h occurs in 10.9 seconds. In a more powerful modification, this engine can produce 115 hp (acceleration occurs in 10 seconds).
The new SEAT Ibiza is based on the MQB-A0 front-wheel drive platform, an upgraded version of the old MQB architecture. The front part of the hatchback body is equipped with an independent McPherson strut suspension, and the rear part is equipped with a semi-independent suspension with an elastic beam, both suspensions are equipped with transverse stabilizers. The braking system of the car is represented by disc devices on both axles (ventilated at the front), ABS and EBD. The power steering is electric.
Trim levels and equipment
The car comes with a wide range of modern equipment. The trim levels, starting from the basic to the sporty FR, are well-equipped. The basic Reference trim includes: 6 airbags, air conditioning, a multimedia system with a 6.5-inch screen, multifunction steering wheel, ABS, EBD, BAS, TSC, ESC, hill start assist, Start-Stop system, cruise control, rear parking sensors, etc. The Style version includes: dual-zone climate control, adaptive cruise control, keyless access system, etc. The top FR version provides a SEAT Drive Profile system, an electric sunroof, full LED optics, sports 17-inch Dynamic wheels and a multimedia system with an 8-inch screen and 6 speakers.
