Honda Civic Si. Affordable sports car
The Honda Civic Si is a compact sports modification based on the 11th generation Honda Civic. Just like the previous registration, the car will be produced in Canada, and the United States will be the first to receive this model at the end of 2021. It is not known when the Si comes to Israel (and whether it is coming at all).
Israeli buyers can purchase the fifth generation of the 2017 Honda Civic Type R sports hatchback with a 2-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with 320 hp, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. The maximum speed of the hatchback is automatically limited to 272 km/h. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h occurs in 5.8 seconds.
As a reminder, the Civic Si was once called the Type S and was the younger sibling of the Type R. Today, the sports car has the letters Si in the name, which literally means ‘Sport Injected’. But whatever it is called, the ‘charged’ Civic is a small, relatively affordable and very good sports car, which has been making Honda’s model range more interesting for 35 years. The dimensions of the car, belonging to the golf class, make the car suitable for asphalt, for rallying and for the track. And it will also be perfect for everyday trips. After all, the Civic has a truly balanced nature.
Exterior
The new Honda Civic Si is distinguished by the radiator grille with a traditional ‘sport’ honeycomb structure and a bright black spoiler on the trunk lid. The elegant 18-inch alloy wheels are painted black, as are the mirror housings and window frames. There are two exhaust pipes, not one. The body itself now offers the torsional rigidity, which has been increased in comparison with its predecessor by 8%. The Si version has a new exterior color Blazing Orange Pearl. The car is equipped with LED headlights and lights, and safety is monitored by the latest version of the Honda Sensing safety package. All-season tires 235/40 R18 are standard.
Interior and lighting
The 2021/2022 Honda Civic Si features sports seats with Si logos and red stitching and pedals. The sedan comes with a 7-inch digital dashboard, 9-inch multimedia system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a premium Bose Centerpoint 2 sound system with 12 speakers. The sound system can transmit the sound of the engine through the speakers. Engineers have also worked on the exhaust system, ensuring that exhaust gases pass more freely through its path.
Engines and chassis
The sedan has a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine. This is an upgraded version of the old motor. After the modification of the VTEC variable valve timing system, the maximum torque of 260 Nm appears at 1,800 rpm instead of the previous 2,100 rpm. The output has dropped slightly: 203 hp instead of 208 hp. The engine is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission and a limited slip differential. The gearbox has a 10% shorter shift lever stroke, and also has an automatic speed matching system when downshifting (used on the Type R).
And to delight the driver in every turn, the new Honda Civic Si has also acquired a suspension with different settings: the front springs are stiffer by 8% than the standard ones, the rear springs are 54% stiffer. The upper legs of the MacPherson struts are reinforced, and there are thicker anti-roll bars and stiffer bushings, as well as the rear levers, like the Type R. The brake discs match here too: they are larger than on the civilian version. And what is quite important, this charged sedan will consume only 7.5 liters of gasoline per 100 kilometers in the combined cycle.
