Hyundai Kona. Bold and dynamic SUV
In September 2020, the first generation Kona was restyled
Hyundai Kona is a compact SUV from the South Korean car manufacturer, Hyundai Motor, produced since 2017. Both front and all-wheel-drive versions are available. There is a hybrid version and an all-electric Hyundai Kona Electric. Currently, the 2017 first generation Honda Kona 5-Door SUV is offered on the Israeli market.
The new Hyundai Kona SUV was named after a district in Hawaii known as a favorite spot for surfers. Water skiing and scuba diving are also popular here. One of the most expensive types of coffee is cultivated in the Kona district. It is truly a unique place! The 2017/2018 Hyundai Kona fully deserves this name, as it is distinguished by its unique characteristics. In Portugal, the car is called Hyundai Kauai, in China - Hyundai Encino.
The first generation
The first generation SUV has been produced from 2017 to the present. The first Kona built on the Hyundai-Kia GB platform, just like the Hyundai i20 hatchback, the Kia Rio and the new Kia Stonic SUV, is a very compact model that is equipped with either front or all-wheel drive, has a MacPherson-type front suspension, torsion beam suspension (front-wheel drive) or multi-link suspension (all-wheel drive). Almost 52% of the body of the new Hyundai Kona SUV is made of high-strength steels.
The new 2019 Kona boasts an athletic body and two-level lighting. The team of stylists has been creative in designing the front end, where the ‘eyebrows’ of the navigation lights rise above the main headlights. As for the stern, we can see the same creative approach here, as the brake lights are located much higher than the side turn signals. Despite the wild imagination-inspired design, Kona’s silhouette is graceful and dynamic, and bold lines will add points in the fight against the main competitors: Toyota C-HR, Honda HR-V, Jeep Renegade and Nissan Juke.

The 2018/2019 Hyundai Kona is well equipped: the top versions have an automatic braking system, lane control and lane departure warning system, blind spot monitoring and switching from high beam headlights to low beam without the driver’s participation. The new Hyundai Kona has a camera and radar for these purposes. The infotainment system can comprise a 5, 7 or 8 inch touchscreen display. The media center supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay interfaces. Plus, the 2019/2020 Hyundai Kona is equipped with a projection screen and wireless charging for a smartphone. The Hyundai Kona driver will be able to choose from three driving modes: Normal, Eco and Sports. The modes are able to change the parameters of operation of the motor, gearbox and steering functions.
In 2018, an electric version of the Hyundai Kona Electric was released. It has various battery sizes. The Kona Electric SUV looks different from the standard Kona in terms of a ground clearance increased by 15 mm, the shape of the bumpers and the design of the radiator false grille, which hides behind the charging cable connection.
