Lamborghini Urus. The fastest SUV in the world
The Lamborghini Urus is a mid-size SUV manufactured by Lamborghini (Italy), owned by the Volkswagen-Audi Group. The vehicle is built on the same platform as the Volkswagen Tuareg, Audi Q7 and Porsche Cayenne. It was presented at the Santa Agata Bolognese plant, on December 4, 2017. The official debut took place in March 2018 at the International Spring Motor Show in Geneva. The Italians were in no hurry to create a production version, although the Urus Concept SUV concept was presented back in 2012 at the Beijing Motor Show; the production model is almost identical to it.
The vehicle is very different from other models of the manufacturer, not only by the body type, but also by the engine. Instead of Lamborghini’s usual naturally aspirated V10 and V12 engines, the Urus is powered by a 4.0-liter V8 engine made by Audi. The engine, equipped with twin turbochargers supporting Twinscroll technology, is used on some models of the Audi S and RS series and Audi A8, as well as Bentley. The engine generates 650 hp and 850 Nm of torque, accelerating the SUV from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds and provides for a top speed of 305 km/h. The vehicle weighs 2,200 kg and consumes 12.7 liters per 100 km in the combined cycle.
The Lamborghini Urus is the world’s first sports SUV with the soul of a supercar and the functionality of an SUV.
The SUV is all-wheel drive, equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission with several operating modes of the control electronics. Its body is 5,112 mm long, 2,016 mm wide and 1,638 mm high. The wheelbase is 3,003 mm. The Urus features the air suspension with adaptive shock absorbers, active rear differential and steering rear wheels. Thanks to the air suspension, the driver can adjust the vehicle’s ground clearance from 158 to 248 mm!
Thanks to such a wide range of options, the Urus combines the excellent handling of a sports car and nice off-road performance of an SUV. This versatile Italian vehicle perfectly holds the high-speed road, easily climbs on a high curb and pleases with an excellent smooth ride even on a bumpy road. So now it’s clear why the manufacturer positions the vehicle as “the world”s first sports SUV with the soul of a supercar and the functionality of an SUV’. So, the volume of the trunk, which usually does not interest anyone when thinking of Lamborghini models, is large and is equal to 574 liters in a five-seater version or 616 liters in a four-seater version. And with the rear-row seat backs folded down, the owner gets 1,596 liters of usable space!
