The Audi RS7 is a sports five-door executive liftback manufactured by Audi Sport GmbH on the Audi A7 platform. It has been produced since 2012. In 2021, you can purchase the second generation car, which debuted in 2019.

Introduced in September 2019, the second generation Audi RS7 is based on the Audi A7 Sportback. The result is a wild, unbridled and steady stylish car. That’s it, it combines all at once. The new Audi RS7 features the elegant lines of a stylish five-door liftback, harmoniously combined with the thrust and power of the unique V8 TFSI engine, innovative technologies and intuitive controls. The manufacturer claims that you no longer have to make compromises if you decide to buy this car and invites you to fully enjoy driving it.

Exterior

The new Audi RS7 Sportback is similar to the A7, but it has a rear spoiler that extends at 100 km/h, the traditional silver color of the rear-view mirrors and huge wheel rims with a diameter of 21 or 22 inches. Moreover, the RS7 has wider wheel arches, thanks to which the width of the car body compared to the ‘civilian’ modifications is 42 mm wider and is 1,950 mm. The 2019 liftback is 5,009 mm long (longer than the original) and 1,424 mm high.

Interior

The interior of the 2019/2020 Audi RS7 differs from the interior of the regular A7, featuring a different steering wheel, which has an RS Mode button that allows you to choose between the RS1 and RS2 settings that change the characteristics of the suspension, engine and steering. The liftback seats are upholstered in nappa leather with a choice of red or gray stitching, and there are Alcantara inlays. The Audi Virtual Cockpit and infotainment system on the RS7 Sportback is exactly the same as on the entry-level A7 Sportback.

It is pleasant to see a 535-liter trunk, as well as the convenience of loading and unloading, which is provided by the entire fifth door that can be lifted. With the rear seats folded down, the useful volume increases to 1,390 liters. And one more thing: in addition to the 4-seater interior, for the first time, you can order a 5-seater version with a full-fledged rear sofa.

Powertrains and chassis

The aluminum hood of the car houses a powerful ‘heart’, a 4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine direct fuel injection engine. It produces 600 hp and a torque of 800 Nm, equipped with ‘mild hybrid’ technology. The MHEV system allows parking with the petrol unit turned off, and also performs a quick start of the engine as part of the Start-Stop system: the electronics can shut it off when braking (at a speed of less than 22 km/h) or coasting (in the range from 55 to 160 km/h). There is also a system for shutting off half of the cylinders at low loads. All this allows you to save fuel and reduce the amount of harmful emissions. The car consumes 11.4 l/100 km in the combined cycle. The 2020/2021 Audi RS7 comes with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The car features the famous Audi quattro all-wheel drive, which distributes power in a ratio of 40:60 (front/rear), but the central differential is capable of transmitting, if necessary, 70% of the power to the front axle, and up to 85% of the power to the rear wheels. Today’s quattro is more advanced and uses sensors that analyze the rotational speed of each of the four wheels, while differentials distribute power according to road adhesion, ensuring precision and stability. Thanks to the absolute road adhesion of each wheel, the sports car is not only stable in corners on any surface, but also accelerates to 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds.

The liftback has acquired the adaptive suspension, traditional for the models of the RS range: in the standard position, the ground clearance is 20 mm lower than that of the ‘regular’ Audi A7. When driving slowly, the body can also be raised by 20 mm, and when accelerating to 120 km/h, it drops 10 mm below the standard position. Electronically controlled Dynamic Ride Control shock absorbers are available.

Equipment

The car is very well-equipped, featuring matrix headlights, a huge panoramic sunroof, two touch screens on the center console (with a diagonal of 10.1 inches and with a diagonal of 8.6 inches below it), which allow you to control all the components of the car, from the multimedia system to the operation of the air conditioner and security settings. The luxurious Bang & Olufsen sound system delivers stunning surround and deep sound through 16 3D Sound speakers and a 705W amplifier. The standard equipment also includes all the most modern Audi safety systems: Pre-sense front, Turn Assist, Active Lane Assist, adaptive cruise control, etc.

The 2021 Audi RS7 comes standard with the Multiple Matrix Beam LED headlights. There is a camera that detects the road surface, other vehicles on the road and many other parameters, adjusts the lighting in front of the road using 64 different bulbs and multiple reflectors. The advanced system provides high-precision illumination: it does not dazzle oncoming drivers and even ‘knows’ how to identify objects that could potentially dazzle and prevents them from being illuminated. The bright light imitates daylight and does not let your eyes get tired.
