Mercedes A-class AMG. A sporty subcompact
Mercedes A-class AMG is a sports executive model of the subcompact motor car of the German brand Mercedes-Benz, launched in 2013. Available in 5-door hatchback and sedan bodywork. As of 2020, the second generation of the 2019 model year has been available on the Israeli market.
First generation
For the first time, the AMG series appeared back in 1998, when the specialists of the tuning studio Mercedes-AMG decided to play around with an A-class car and installed two 1.9-liter gasoline engines on it. That’s the way A38 AMG was unveiled. The first powerplant was fitted in the traditional place under the hood and drove the front wheels, while the second was fitted at the rear of the car and sent drafting to the rear wheels. The tank capacity of the engines was 250 hp. The car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds. The top speed is limited to 230 km/h. All in all, there were only four cars like this, and two of them were received by former Formula 1 drivers – Mika Hakkinen and David Coulthard.
Officially, the production of the first generation of AMG versions started in 2013. It was produced until 2018, and gone through a facelift in 2015. Based on the third generation Mercedes A-class, the sporty Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG (W176) fitted with 4MATIC all-wheel drive system, a 2-liter turbo engine with a capacity of 360 hp, and 7-speed sports transmission. It accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds, and the top speed was 250 km/h. The car’s technical data was a 3-speed stability control system with ESP Curve Dynamic Assist and ESP Sport Handling, a high-performance braking system, a “twin blade” radiator grille, alloy wheel rims, and two square chrome-plated tailpipes. Later, the AMG A-class capacity was increased to 381 PS.
Second generation
It is produced from 2019 to the present (data for 2020). The new Mercedes AMG A-Class has a front apron of an original design, a characteristic AMG radiator grille, a hood with expressive Powerdome protrusions, and dynamic rear bodywork. The AMG A45 S 4MATIC+ additionally boasts optional forged 19-inch cruciform rim wheels and red brake calipers. The 2019/2020 AMG A35 4MATIC Mercedes features a striking front spoiler, decorative elements on the side air intake blades, a striking rear apron with a distinctive decorative diffuser, and a 19-inch multi-spoke light-alloy rim wheels.
The AMG A45 S 4MATIC+ is equipped with a 2-liter petrol turbo engine with 421 hp and rated torque of 500 Nm. It can accelerate the car to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, and its top speed is 270 km/h. Partnered with 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. The AMG A35 4MATIC is a little more conservative. It accelerates from 0 to 100 in 4.7 seconds, top speed – 250 km/h.
