The Mercedes GLC Coupe is a coupe-like luxury compact crossover from the German brand Mercedes-Benz, based on the GLC series, which has been produced since 2016. It can be both back-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. You could buy the first generation of the car could be purchased after 2019 restyling in Israel in 2020.

Actually, the GLC-class itself is so diverse that it has any options for literally all occasions. It might just be an urban crossover. You will receive an SUV with an Off-Road package. If you want to drive, then buy charged AMG versions. If spending on fuel annoys you, then charge the plug-in hybrid. A crossover with a fashionable coupe-like silhouette, the Mercedes GLC Coupe has added to all this variety.

First generation

It has been produced from 2016 to the present and it was restyled in 2019 (data for 2020). For quite a long time, Daimler AG watched as BMW single-handedly made millions from the sale of coupe-crossovers. Until the GLE Coupe was released as a competitor to the BMW X6. The GLC Coupe has appeared right after. It is the main competitor to the BMW X4. The Porsche Macan, Range Rover Evoque, and Jaguar F-Pace are also rivals of Mercedes' new cross-coupe. The first GLC Coupe is generally similar to the GLC-class crossovers but differs from them with a sloping roof, sharper steering, and a stiffer ‘sporty’ suspension. Despite the increased overall length of the coupe, the wheelbase remains the same as that of the original crossover, and the track is almost unchanged.

The chassis of the coupe version has changed in strict accordance with the more ‘driving’ character. Already in the basic version, the GLC Coupe is equipped with a sports suspension, for a surcharge, an adaptive or pneumatic suspension, and the steering is sharper. The gear ratio of the mechanism is reduced from 16.1: 1 to 15.1: 1. Almost all Coupes come with all-wheel drive and nine-speed automatic transmission, but there is one back-wheel drive model, which is the GLC 200. The prefix ‘Coupe’ in the name unequivocally hints not only at a more stocky and graceful body but also at an increased concentration of ‘sportiness’ in behavior.

The exterior of the new GLC Coupe has received smooth lines, so the Mercedes does not look as sporty and aggressive as the BMW X4. The front of the coupe-crossover is decorated with an elegant ‘honeycomb’ false radiator grille and a raised bumper. The rear roofline makes the car look more like a liftback than a coupe.

The main ‘compartment’ change in the cabin is the seats installed a little lower. Of course, the trunk has become smaller. The volume is 491 liters instead of 550 for the original GLC, and it is 1205 versus 1600 liters with the rear sofa folded down. The moderate slope of the roof and low-lying rear seats allowed for ample headroom for the rear passengers. Despite the fact that the doorway has become lower, the body panels of the doors themselves are identical to the GLC without the ‘coupe’ prefix, only the frames have changed according to the new profile.
