ORA. Great Wall’s new era
Founded in 1976, the company with a very symbolic name given in honor of the Great Wall of China, Great Wall Motors, is a large private automobile holding company in China. Today it includes 4 automakers, including Haval, Tank, Wey and Ora, as well as 20 subsidiaries producing automotive components. The company is one of the top 500 companies in the country. In 2020, it has already produced 1,111,598 cars. Great Wall has the ambition to develop alternative technologies and has been working in this direction for a long time, having introduced its first hybrid car, the Hover E, in 2012. The next big step was the creation of a new electric vehicle brand, ORA. It’s a new era for Great Wall, the first step towards a future of electric mobility.
What will the new ORA brand be like?
The ORA brand aims to ‘become a luxury electric vehicle brand popular with people around the world’. Originally established as a manufacturer of exclusively electric vehicles, the bran was named after the world-renowned scientist, Leonhard Euler. The new brand’s models have a distinct ME electric vehicle platform, which has become the first such architecture in China. It has been built for more than 10 years by 500 experts and R&D personnel using high quality global resources. On August 20, 2018, the first model, the Ora iQ, officially debuted.
Leonhard Euler (1707-1783) was a Swiss, Prussian and Russian mathematician and mechanic who made a fundamental contribution to the development of Mathematics, Physics, Optics, Mechanics, Astronomy and several other sciences. He is considered one of the greatest mathematicians in history.
Model range
Ora iQ
The first and simplest ORA model, an elevated front-wheel-drive liftback, was produced from 2018 to 2021. This model is widely used like taxis. It is 4,460 mm long, 1,735 mm wide, 1,567 mm high, and has a wheelbase of 2,650 mm. The car is equipped with a 163 horsepower electric motor and a 54.4 kWh battery. The driving range is 421 km according to the NEDC cycle.
Ora Cat
The Ora Cat is a next-generation electric car based on the L.E.M.O.N. from GWM. It features a retro design and is aimed at young buyers. In Europe, the car is known as Funky Cat. The hatchback with a body length of 4,235 mm is equipped with an electric motor with a capacity of 169 hp, which provides acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds and is powered by batteries with a capacity of 46 or 59 kWh. The first version has a range of 300 km, while the second offers 400 km.
*Ora Adora
The Ora Adora is a fun hatchback built on the ME platform, GWM’s first proprietary electric vehicle platform. It received this name for export markets, but it is known as Black Cat in China. According to the manufacturer, it has the following advantages: appearance, space, smart equipment, safety and overall quality. The lightweight design gives the product features such as an increased driving range and low power consumption, which is perfectly in line with the expectations of a younger audience of high-end cars.
Ora Punk Cat
The Ora Punk Cat is a retro-styled 5-door electric hatchback, very similar to the Volkswagen Beetle. It was introduced in April 2022, and its production started in the summer. The body length is 4,749 mm, the width is 1,989 mm, the height is 1,725 mm, and the wheelbase is 2,915 mm. It is offered in two versions: with rear-wheel drive and a 299 hp motor and with all-wheel drive and two motors. The total power reaches 544 hp.
Ora Ballet Cat
The Ora Ballet Cat is a retro-styled 5-door electric hatchback, very similar to the Punk Cat and Volkswagen Beetle. Pre-orders were opened in June 2022. Women are the main target audience for the elegant Ballet Cat. The car looks smooth and offers special driving modes. The model is 4,401 mm long, 1,867 mm wide and 1,633 mm high. The wheelbase is 2,750 mm. But the motor is more modest than that of the Punk Cat: 171 hp. In addition, the driving range depends on the battery and can be 401 or 500 km.
Ora Lightning Cat
The Ora Lightning Cat 5-door liftback bears a strong resemblance to Porsche vehicles such as the 911 and the Panamera. The model is 4,871 mm long, 1,862 mm wide, 1,500 mm high, and has the wheelbase of 2,870 mm. The Ora Lightning Cat initially comes with a single 204 hp electric motor. The manufacturer intends to release a 2-motor version, the power of which will exceed 400 hp. The maximum speed will reach 180 km/h and the acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h will be around 3 seconds. The car has a WLTP driving range of 450 km. The novelty features the Level 3 autopilot. Of note is the air conditioning based on artificial intelligence, which monitors the temperature and pulse of passengers in order to regulate comfort in the passenger compartment.
Ora Big Cat
The Ora Big Cat is an electric compact SUV, the design of which almost copies the appearance of the Macchiato model, a car from the Wey brand, also owned by GWM. It has a new false grille, the lower part of the front bumper and new badges, as well as a large Ora script on the trunk lid. The SUV will have a 204 hp engine. The premiere is scheduled before the end of 2022.
