The RAM 2500 is a full-size cargo-passenger pickup produced by Stellantis NV (former Fiat Chrysler Automobiles), which owns the RAM brand. It is a four-wheel drive body-on-frame vehicle. It is produced in a two-cab version. In 2021, the fifth generation of the 2019 pickup is available on the market.

The fifth-generation RAM 2500 is a very large pickup with a very high seating position, weighting over two tonnes. The pickup has new features and options that are balancing the size and power of the vehicle.

Engines and chassis

The frame of the new 2500 is 98.5% high-strength steel, with a hydroformed base frame for increased rigidity. Softness and stability of riding are provided by shock absorbers that automatically adjust depending on the road surface and coil springs at all four corners.

The 2019/2020 RAM 2500 can be equipped with a rear air suspension, which replaces the rear coil springs with pads. Another innovation is the braking system, which uses 14-inch rotors and twin-piston calipers.

The base engine is a 6.4 liter 8-cylinder petrol engine generating 410 hp. The unit has the function of deactivating the cylinders at low loads to save fuel. The engine is equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The petrol version of the pickup is capable of towing 15,921 kg.

There is also a 6.7-liter Cummins inline-6 turbo diesel engine with up to 400 hp, depending on the configuration, which is accompanied by a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Special options

The new RAM 2500 is equipped with options that provide the pickup with high maneuverability: adaptive cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree surround view camera. Considering how difficult it is to park such a large truck, the latter two are especially useful.

Design features and progressive options allow this truck to maneuver and park in almost any parking lot, despite its massiveness and size.

The 2500 is the only heavy pickup in the segment to offer progressive safety features including adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring and trailer-compatible automatic emergency braking on every trim level.

Another unique element is the integrated exhaust brake, which allows the driver to select the desired descent speed by pressing the brake. The system maintains the set speed until the driver resumes control by pressing the accelerator pedal again.

Design features and progressive options allow this truck to maneuver and park in almost any parking lot, despite its massiveness and size.

Safety

The 2500 is the first RAM to feature advanced safety systems such as Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Blind Spot Warning (BSW), and Cross-Traffic Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. In addition, the pickup has six airbags, electronic stability control, traction control and anti-lock brakes. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) awarded the five-point safety rating to the RAM 2500.
