The RAM 1500 Classic is a full-size cargo-passenger pickup produced by Stellantis NV (formerly Fiat Chrysler Automobiles), which owns the RAM brand. It is an all-wheel or front-wheel drive body-on-frame vehicle with a mixed suspension. It is produced in two-cab, single-cab and 1.5-cab versions.

The RAM range has been developing continuously since 1981, when the first Dodge Ram was built on the basis of S-series pickups, produced since 1972, later indexed 1500. Since 2011, RAM has been developing as a separate brand.

In 2011, Dodge became part of FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, since 2021 - Stellantis NV), after which RAM was considered a separate brand, starting with the fourth generation of the 1500th version, which became known as the RAM 1500 Classic.

1500 types

RAM pickups differ in the front end layout: Crew Cab is a four-door modification with an enlarged rear door and sufficient space for rear passengers; Quad Cab is a four-door modification with rear seats that are not very spacious, but ample; Regular Cab is a modification with two doors and two or three rear seats.

  • Crew Cab: The fourth generation Crew Cab 1500 is a large family weekend pickup, the size and power of which are aimed at providing comfort rather than conquering impassable swamps. The standard engine for the modification is a 3.6 liter six-cylinder engine, coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission. V8 engines are also available with a six-speed or eight-speed automatic transmission. Depending on the trim level, the Crew Cab modification was offered with rear or all-wheel drive.
  • The Quad Cab 1500 is designed for those who use the vehicle for everyday trips, for example, to work. The design features more massive elements, a larger front panel and a taller hood. The most popular is the 3.6 liter V6 Pentastar engine, combined with a 6-speed manual transmission or an 8-speed automatic transmission.
  • Regular Cab: The RAM 1500 Regular Cab is a lightweight SUV for everyday use that features the Active Grille shutter system that opens or closes the radiator grille to maintain thermal balance in the engine. The standard engine is a 3.6L V6 engine coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Two other V8 engines are available with a 6- or 8-speed automatic transmission.

The length of the vehicle varies from 5,308 to 5,817 mm, the height is from 1,894 to 1,923 mm, the width in all modifications is 2,017 mm, and the front wheels are moved away from the rear ones at a distance from 3,061 to 3,570 mm, depending on the modification. The maximum towing capacity of the 1500 in the most powerful trim level reaches 4,649 kg.

Standard safety equipment of the 2011 RAM 1500 of all types includes antilock brake system, stability control, start assist, trailer swing control, front seat side airbags and full length side airbags.

Interior and exterior

There are four interior and exterior finish options for the 1500 that apply to all cab types. For example, the ST version features 17-inch steel wheels, vinyl flooring, air conditioning, a front bench seat, vinyl upholstery, a fold-down rear seat, tilt steering column, and a six-speaker stereo system with CD player and an additional audio jack. Options include chrome steel wheels, large outside rearview mirrors for towing, cruise control, fabric seats, linens and satellite radio.

The SLT version comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, chrome exterior trim, heated exterior mirrors, carpeted flooring, cruise control, power rear window, keyless access.

The Sport version features a powerful V-8 engine, dual exhaust system, 20-inch chrome wheels, fog lights, auto-dimming rear and side view mirrors, steering wheel with audio controls, touchscreen display, Bluetooth, power driver’s seat and more.

In terms of technical equipment, the top-end Laramie version is similar to the Sport version, but there are some additional features: electric outside mirrors, rear parking sensors, additional chrome trim elements, extended fenders, electric pedals, six-way electric passenger seat, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, upgraded audio system with subwoofer, remote engine start and wood or chrome interior trim.
