Dodge Charger 2014. Bodywork, Exterior. Sedan, 6 generation, restyling

The 2014 Dodge Charger is a totally modernized muscle car from the 60s and 70s. It has just as powerful and even more powerful engines, but it is an incomparably more technologically advanced car. The combination of the legendary qualities of the iconic Charger with advanced options makes it a unique sedan.

Exterior and interior

After the restyling in 2014, the Dodge Charger looks like a true sports (but not racing) car. It is impossible to recognize the ancient awkward and dangerous car of the early 70s in it, but this is even for the best. Only a tilted roof, slightly shifted back, reminds of the glorious past. But the front and rear ends are very well balanced. The front end is aggressive, but not intimidating, the hood is muscular, but not too muscular, and the radiator grille is moderately large and not toothed, lined with a noble Dodge cross.

In general, you can safely drive the restyled Dodge for business or leisure, as this is a solid, serious full-size sedan, and not a flat killer bucket with big wheels and a powerful engine for the amusement of drunken stuntmen. But if necessary, the new Dodge Charger will outmatch the cocky old fellow that took part in the wild races of the 70s. The 2014 Charger is a large car with a roomy interior, ample head and legroom for the driver and passengers, with the soft backseat, where there is enough room even to stretch out to full height. By the way, all the the trim levels, except for the basic one, can be equipped with a sunroof. But we don’t recommend hanging out of it to shout “FREEEDOOOM!” and blow your hair beautifully in the wind on the go, as this is still a real muscle car.

Trim levels

The 2014/2015 Dodge Charger is offered in SE, SXT, R/T, SRT 392 and SRT Hellcat trim levels. All models are rear-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive can be provided for the SE and SXT. The SE comes standard with:

  • 17-inch alloy wheels;
  • automatic headlights;
  • keyless ignition and entry system;
  • dual-zone air conditioning system (manual);
  • six-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat;
  • sound system with six speakers and a 5-inch touchscreen.

The SXT trim level comprises the above equipment of the SE version, plus:

  • 18-inch alloy wheels;
  • LED fog lights;
  • heated mirrors;
  • remote ignition;
  • dual-zone automatic climate control;
  • heated front seats and much more.

The R/T trim level includes options offered by the SXT, but it has a 5.7-liter V8 engine with a sports exhaust system, 20-inch wheels, sport-tuned suspension, upgraded brakes, rear limited slip differential, launch control, improved brakes, performance-oriented steering tuning power steering and more aggressive Super Track Pack suspension tuning. Advanced comfort options include heated mirrors, heat settings and adjustable tilt, ventilated front seats and heated rear seats. The R / T can also be equipped with a 6.4-liter V8 engine producing 485 hp and a reconfigured suspension, steering and brakes to match the actual racing conditions.

The Charger SRT 392 is equipped with the same 6.4-liter V8 engine, but with even more advanced brakes, an active exhaust system, and an upgraded suspension with adaptive dampers.

The SRT Hellcat is a demonic Charger model equipped with a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 that produces an outstanding 707 hp. If you do not have the skills to handle especially large and aggressive cats, we don’t recommend approaching it. Other options for the Hellcat include 20-inch Hellcat forged alloy wheels, a special remote control that can be used to limit engine power (an extremely useful option), and blind spot monitoring system.

Safety

The standard safety features of the restyled Charger include stability and traction control, anti-lock disc brakes, front seat side airbags, driver’s knee airbag, side curtains. There are also such advanced options as rear parking sensors and a rearview camera, a blind spot monitoring system with rear cross traffic alert, a lane departure warning system with lane assist, and a forward collision warning and mitigation system that is connected to adaptive cruise control. By the way, the new Dodge Charger has pre-installed child seat mounts.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the 2014 restyled Charger the highest rating in frontal collision, side impact and roof roll-over strength crash tests, as well as a high rating for rear-impact safety.

How do you like the idea to drive a legendary supercar equipped with the most advanced systems of the 21st century?
