Subaru Impreza Sedan, 5th generation. 2019 restyling
The Subaru Impreza is a compact model produced by Subaru (Japan) since 1992 in sedan and five-door hatchback bodies. In Israel, the Impreza is available as a sedan. The fifth generation car (produced since 2016, restyled in 2019) is built on the new modular Subaru Global Platform. It is characterized by an even lower center of gravity (5 mm lower), increased torsion resistance of the body. At the same time, the car weight is practically the same. Traditionally for this brand, the car is equipped with a horizontally opposed-four engine that works together with an all-wheel drive system.
As for its weak points, the car has boring design, low ground clearance, and sluggish acceleration with the basic engine.
Exterior
The modern architecture allowed the manufacturer to make the sedan body stiffer and bigger, thus it has grown by 41 and 38 mm in width and in height, respectively, while the wheelbase has become 25 mm larger. But at the same time, the car is 10 mm lower. So, the four-door sedan is 4,625 mm long, 1,775 mm wide and 1,455 mm high. Its wheelbase reaches 2,670 mm. The minimum turning radius is 5.3 meters. The passenger compartment is 2,085 mm long, 1,520 wide and 1,200 mm high. The 2019 Impreza Sedan has a spacious trunk with a volume of 460 liters. The seats can be folded down (60:40) in order to increase the working volume of the trunk and transport long items.
Restyled in 2019, the Impreza boasts of a refreshed exterior. The car has a new design of the front face, which is decorated with a more graceful grille, an eye-catching bumper with the long horizontal stripes imitating the elongated lower air intake and the advanced optics of the front and rear of the car.
Power trains and chassis
Israeli versions of the 2019/2020 Impreza sedan are equipped with a 1.6-liter FB16 horizontally opposed-four engine that produces a maximum of 114 hp at 6,200 rpm and 148 Nm at 3,600 rpm. The engine is paired with a Lineartronic CVT, which has a manual shift mode for 7 fixed gears using the steering column switches. The engine is considered fuel-efficient: the consumption in the urban cycle is 12.3 km per one liter of gasoline, and in the extra urban cycle, it will be sufficient for 17.8 km.
The car is equipped with a branded Symmetrical AWD system that distributes traction along the axles as follows: 60% to the front axle, 40% to the rear axle, if necessary, the ratio can be equalized to 50/50. The new Subaru Impreza has independent suspension on all wheels: the MacPherson struts in front and a multi-link suspension at the rear. The restyled car acquired new mechanisms with 15- or 16-inch ventilated discs on the front axle and 16-inch ventilated brakes on the rear axle.
