2020 Isuzu D-Max single-cab pickup. 3rd generation

Isuzu D-Max 2019. Bodywork, Exterior. Pickup single-cab, 3 generation

The Isuzu D-Max is a classic mid-size pickup produced by Isuzu Motors (Japan) since 2002. It is available in three versions: 2-door 4-seater ‘1.5-cab’, 4-door 5-seater ‘double-cab’ and 2-door 2-seater ‘single-cab’, and the latter two are sold in Israel. There are both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive models, all of which are equipped with a diesel engine. In 2021, Israeli buyers can purchase the third generation pickup.

The third generation pickup, released at the very end of 2020, is a completely new vehicle. This is despite the 2019 major restyling, which is considered a new generation. And then the Japanese decided to make a truly new generation. The third Isuzu D-Max is completely new, both externally and internally. And as its loyal fans say, the new Japanese pickup could be one of the best offers on the market in terms of price, quality and technology.

Distinctive features

The 2020/2021 2-door 2-seater single-cab pickup is 5,305 mm long, 1,810 mm wide, 1,790 mm high, and has a wheelbase of 3,125 mm. The vehicle has a reinforced frame, bigger side bars, strengthened levers, a lower and longer body, and a slightly larger wheelbase. If we take a look at all the innovations, we can safely say that the D-Max no longer feels like a utility truck, it is eye-catching and cool, both outside and inside. During Euro NCAP crash tests, the new D-Max received 5 stars and scored the same number of points as the new Defender.

At the same time, it still remains a real body-on-frame pickup with excellent cross-country ability, high carrying capacity and a high level of comfort. Quite large overall dimensions provide increased body roominess and ample space in the passenger compartment. The ground clearance of the single-cab version reaches 220 mm, the maximum approach angle is 30 degrees and the departure angle is 23 degrees. The fording depth has increased from 600 to 800 mm, which speaks of the excellent off-road performance of the pickup. The air intake system is brought up and forward under the hood, but when the hood is closed, special seals form an air bag around it. Now all models are equipped with a forced locking of the rear cross-axle differential.

Engines

The 2021 Isuzu D-Max Single-cab is equipped with a 1.9-liter turbo diesel engine with 163 hp, coupled with 6-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive. The maximum speed developed by the new pickup is very ‘unhurried’, amounting to 180 km/h. But speed is not the most important thing here. The average fuel consumption is within 8.2 liters per 100 km.

Equipment

The single-cab version of the 2021 Isuzu D-Max pickup is quite well-equipped even in the simplest trim level. There are at least 7 airbags, including an airbag between the front seats. Numerous electronic driver assistance systems include: anti-lock braking system, electronic stability control, hill-start assist and hill-descent control, brake assist, traction control system, collision avoidance system, lane departure warning system and driver fatigue sensor.

All the trim levels are equipped with heated front seats and side mirrors, power steering, air conditioning, rain sensors and a full-size spare wheel.

The list of options includes: active cruise control and speed limiter, walk away auto lock and approach backlighting, rear view camera, front and rear parking sensors, a possibility of setting a variety of technical functions via the menu, 2-zone climate control, full LED optics and other little things.
