The Suzuki Crossover is a 5-door compact SUV, codesigned by Fiat (Italy) and Suzuki (Japan). It has been produced since 2006. It may be 4WD or FWD. Currently, the market can offer 2 generations of the Crossover, while Israeli buyers can purchase the second generation after the restyling in 2016.

Throughout its history, the Suzuki Crossover has managed to take many forms… It used to be a sedan and a 5-door hatchback. And only the second generation has finally become a true SUV.

The first generation

The first-generation Suzuki Crossover appeared in 2006 and was produced until 2014. In 2010, it was restyled. The first Crossover was a 5-door hatchback, marketed under the name SX4 Crossover. Its design was developed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, ‘the Automotive Designer of the Century’, and his company ItalDesign. In Italy, the first-generation Crossover was offered as Fiat Sedici. In other markets, it was called the S-Cross. The sedan body model sold in Japan and India was called SX4 Sport. The FWD SX4 was supplied to Israel. And it was not a crossover but a 5-door hatchback! Even after restyling in 2010, having received updated exterior design and new engines, it still did not become a crossover.

The second generation

The second-generation Suzuki Crossover has been produced from the end of 2013 to the present. In 2016 it underwent restyling. The second Suzuki SX4 (S-Cross or Crossover, as we call it today) is a true four-wheel drive or front-wheel drive SUV. Restyled in 2016, it acquired a new, more embossed hood, a modified front bumper, new headlights with LED daytime running lights, a chrome grille with vertical teeth, and taillights with new graphics. The vehicle is equipped with a multimedia system with a touch screen (the same one is installed on the Vitara and the Baleno). The second-generation Crossover could boast of a turbocharged petrol engine from the new Boosterjet family and a 6-speed mechanical gearbox with a semi-automatic transmission.

Finally, the Suzuki Crossover lives up to its name, as now it is a real SUV, albeit a compact one: a body with increased ground clearance, plastic linings and roof rails. The passenger compartment can boast of a more advanced multimedia system and new upholstery. The new Suzuki Crossover has a navigation system, voice control, and ports for auxiliary devices. The manufacturer also puts emphasis on the spaciousness of the passenger compartment and calls this model a family SUV. The trunk volume is 355 l with the standard backseat position. Moreover, the Suzuki Crossover is equipped with a stronger engine.
