Suzuki Swift Hatchback. 5th generation, 2020 restyling
The Suzuki Swift is a city five-door hatchback with a bold image and a spacious interior, manufactured since 1983 by Suzuki Motor (Japan). Petrol cars and hybrid versions are sold in Israel. The fifth generation is very different from the fourth. The restyling of 2020 also brought some changes.
Exterior
The restyled hatchbacks are distinguished by a new radiator grille with a chrome-plated horizontal stripe in the center, as well as by the new wheels. As for the rest, the car looks the same, featuring rounded headlights, embossed sides and sporty rear end. The car of this generation has become 120 kg lighter. Thus, its body has lost 53 kg of weight and has become 10% stiffer. The engine and transmission are 23% lighter, the suspension and steering are 15% lighter, and even the interior is 18% smaller.
The new Suzuki Swift is based on the Heartect platform, which provides a lower center of gravity and lighter car weight. The fifth generation Swift is 120 kg lighter than its predecessor.
Interior
The interior offers different combinations of finishing materials and a slightly modified trip computer, capable of showing a digital speedometer on its display. The interior of the 2020/2021 Suzuki Swift is slightly smaller than that of the larger Baleno: 1,910 mm long, 1,425 mm wide and 1,225 mm high. The trunk volume is 265 liters (according to the VDA method), the HYBRID SL version offers 178 liters. The rear seat backrest folds down in sections, increasing the trunk volume to 579 liters (500 liters for the HYBRID SL).
Powertrains
The car is standardly equipped with a 1.2-liter 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated engine (91 hp, 118 Nm, Dualjet power system with two nozzles per cylinder), which is coupled with a manual transmission or a CVT.
There is still the full-fledged hybrid, which first appeared in 2017. It comprises the same 1.2 petrol engine paired with an electric motor (14 hp, 30 Nm) and a 5-speed AGS single-clutch transmission. The lithium-ion battery of the hybrid hatchback is more capacious than the version with a starter-generator: 4.4 Ah instead of 3 Ah, and is located under the trunk floor. Such a car consumes, on average, only 3.1 liters per 100 km. The suspension is the same. The car has a McPherson strut suspension at the front and an H-shaped beam at the rear. The rear brakes in the basic versions are drum brakes.
Equipment
The restyled Suzuki Swift has an expanded set of preventive safety systems, which is provided for all trim levels. Even the entry-level versions are equipped with an original and advanced safety system based on a monocular camera and laser radar, which includes autonomous braking, lane departure system, blind spot monitoring system, rear cross traffic warning and driver fatigue warning.
Standard comfort equipment includes heated seats, climate control, keyless entry, electrically folding mirrors, Guide me light, front and rear fog lights and lamps.
