Toyota Hilux Pickup. 8th generation. Released since 2015

Toyota Hilux is a mid-size pickup produced by Toyota (Japan) since 1968. There are 8 generations of this vehicle, the last of which has been available on the Israeli market as a pickup double cab since 2015.

Distinctive features

In its history, the Hilux has been everywhere: the famous English car show, Top Gear, used it in their trip to the North Pole, then the pickup was thrown into the sea and climbed a volcano. In addition to the TV show, the pickup even participated in the Paris-Dakar Rally. The 2019 Hilux 4-Door 5-Seater Pickup Double Cab has impressive dimensions: 5,330 mm long and 1,885 mm wide, with a wheelbase of 3,085 mm.

The eighth generation Hilux is built on an upgraded seventh generation pickup platform with a stiffer steel frame and improved chassis. The new Hilux has an independent double wishbone suspension with an anti-roll bar at the front and a leaf spring structure with two shock absorbers on each side in the back. This ‘little truck’ has three options for adjusting shock absorbers and elastic elements: Standard - for all types of roads, Comfort - for asphalt, and Heavy duty - for heavy loads.

Modifications

In Israel, the 2019/2020 Toyota Hilux comes with 4 diesel engine options. All engines are turbocharged and have the same power of 150 hp. But, depending on the pickup trim level, they have some differences. The 2GD-FTV 150 engine accelerates the pickup to 170 km/h and consumes an average of 7 liters per 100 km. It is equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission and is available for the rear-wheel drive versions of the Hilux. The 2GD-FTV AT ACTIVE engine also accelerates the vehicle to 170 km/h, but it consumes an average of 7.3 liters per 100 km. It is equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission and is available for the all-wheel drive models. The 2GD-FTV AT ADVENTURE engine is the same, but its average fuel consumption reaches 7.4 liters. The 2GD-FTV MT ACTIVE engine accelerates the pickup to 175 km/h and consumes 6.8 liters per 100 km. It is also available for the all-wheel drive models, but is equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission.

Trim levels

Israeli buyers can choose from the following trim levels of the 2019/2020 Toyota Hilux: Adventure, Active and Active+. A complete set of airbags, except for the rear side airbags, but including window ones, full-size spare wheel, immobilizer and central locking, active power steering, heated side mirrors, folding rear seats, air conditioning (Active trim) or climate control (Adventure), and a multifunction steering wheel are available on all the 2019 Hilux trim levels. The Adventure trim level has the widest list of electronic ‘assistants’, but even the Active and Active+ have a drive mode selection system, brake assist, hill start assist and hill descent control, and a driver fatigue sensor.

Thanks to its simplicity, functionality, maintainability, off-road performance and bearing capacity, the Hilux pickup has earned immense popularity around the world and has become a real off-road conqueror.
