Volkswagen ID.3. 1st generation, 2023 restyling
The compact electric hatchback has been produced since 2019. So it was time for restyling. In February 2023, the manufacturer unveiled the new Volkswagen ID.3, proudly calling it the second generation, although we consider this an exaggeration. However, the car has obviously changed inside and outside, has received more environmentally friendly materials and upgraded electronics. Sales of the updated ID.3 will begin in Europe in the fourth quarter of 2023. Let’s see how the car has been improved
Exterior
The 2023 Volkswagen ID.3 features new, more aggressive bumpers, as well as different headlights and lights: a light strip now connects the rear optics, rather than a reflector. The updated car has a different hood, without a black element near the base of the windshield, but with stampings. The hatchback comes with new wheels plus a new Dark Olivine Green tint (shown in premiere photos).
Interior
The latest environmental trends have touched the passenger compartment: the materials of animal origin were replaced with fabric made from recycled plastic and textiles. The door cards have become softer. The multimedia system has received an updated menu with more informative sections. The screen has the same diameter of 12 inches.
The Park Assist Plus system has learnt to ‘remember’ the last tens of meters of the path. So, when it is activated, the car itself goes in reverse along the same route. The Travel Assist function has been improved: the system actively keeps the car in the middle of its lane. In combination with the Travel Assist navigation system, it is complemented by predictive cruise control and cornering assistance. The traffic assistant can adapt the car’s speed to the current speed limits and the course of the road (curves, roundabouts, etc.).
Powertrains
The restyled 2023 Volkswagen ID.3 has an improved fast charger, the power of which has been increased to 170 kW (compared to 135 kW in the current model), which allows you to charge from 5% to 80% in 30 minutes. Now the battery can charge the home electrical network in the event of a power outage. The car has kept its 204 hp engine, powered by one of two batteries: with a capacity of 58 kWh (a driving range of 426 km) and with a capacity of 77 kWh (546 km). Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h occurs in 7.3 seconds or 7.9 seconds, respectively.
In Israel, the Volkswagen ID.3 is not officially available. At the same time, it is considered one of the most popular all-electric hatchbacks in Europe and is included in our rating of the best city electric cars.
