Volvo V60 Cross Country Estate. Made for adventures
The Volvo V60 Cross Country is a mid-size estate manufactured by Volvo Cars (Sweden). The car is built on the same platform as the S60 sedan and the V60 estate. It is an all-terrain version of the latter. The first generation V60 Cross Country was released in 2015, whereas the second one, currently available in Israel, was introduced in 2019 (as of 2021). This Swedish estate is safe, roomy and mobile.
The first generation
It was produced from 2015 to 2019. Volvo unveiled its modification of the V60 estate with the increased cross-country ability at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show. In April 2015, the Cross Country estate started conquering the markets of different countries. The exterior design of the first Volvo V60 Cross Country managed to combine elegant, dynamic and off-road features, such as an increased ground clearance and a protective outfit, consisting of protective linings around the perimeter and wheel arch extensions. The image of a brave off-road conqueror was complemented by 18-19-inch rims with an original design, combined with fairly high-profile tires.
The V60 Cross Country was 4,638 mm long, 1,899 mm wide and 1,545 mm high, with the wheelbase of 2,774 mm. As compared to the regular version of the model, the ground clearance was increased by 65 mm to 201 mm, which is a typical indicator for off-road vehicles. The trunk compartment can hold 430 liters. The Volvo signature trunk is comfortable, with the spare wheel being hidden in the underfloor space, and the backrest of the second row seats folds in three parts, like in the original V60 model.
The interior of the ‘raised’ estate was borrowed from the usual V60. The car featured a digital dashboard and a massive console in the center with a small display and sound and climate control units, consisting of many small buttons. The interior was finished with expensive materials: soft plastics, genuine leather and aluminum inserts. The build quality was excellent. The car had comfortable sports front seats and a soft rear sofa.

The first generation Volvo V60 Cross Country estate was equipped with a pair of diesel engines and one petrol engine. The 2-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder diesel engine developed 150 hp at 4,250 rpm and 350 Nm of torque at 1,500-2,500 rpm. This version had front-wheel drive and a manual transmission. A more powerful version was a 2-liter turbocharged 5-cylinder engine generating 190 hp at 4,000 rpm and 420 Nm of torque at 1,500-3,000 rpm. The top-end off-road estate was equipped with a 2.5 liter turbocharged 5-cylinder petrol direct injection engine. This engine produced 249 hp at 5,400 rpm and 360 Nm of peak thrust at 1,800-2,400 rpm. With 5-cylinder engines, the estate was equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission, and these two more powerful engines powered all four wheels through the Haldex all-wheel drive transmission.
The chassis of the off-road estate was the same as that of the usual one. The V60 Cross Country featured a MacPherson strut suspension at the front and a multi-link suspension at the rear. The steering mechanism was equipped with an electric booster. Plus, the car featured disc brakes, with the front ones being ventilated.
The second generation
It has been produced from 2019 to the present (as of 2021). The new Volvo V60 Cross Country is based on the modular SPA platform. It is 4,784 mm long, 1,850 mm wide and 1,499 mm high. The wheelbase is 2,874 mm, and the trunk compartment volume varies from 529 to 1,441 liters (with the backseat folded down). The ground clearance is 210 mm, which is 75 mm more than that of the original V60. Only the four-wheel drive version is available. Like its predecessor, the estate features a protective plastic body kit. The car has a special Off-Road mode in the drive electronics settings, which ensures that more torque is transmitted to the rear wheels, the hill descent assistant is activated, the steering wheel becomes lighter, and the reactions are smoother.
The 2019/2020 Volvo V60 Cross Country is equipped with 2-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engines. The T5 petrol version produces 250 hp, whereas the D4 diesel version offers 190 hp. There is also a hybrid version based on the T5, supplemented by a 13-horsepower electric motor, which helps the car at low speeds and reduces fuel consumption.

The new estate is equipped with an automatic braking system with pedestrian, cyclist and animal recognition, a semi-autonomous Pilot Assist system that works on roads with distinguishable markings and helps driving within the lane, preventing the lane departure, and an automatic braking system detecting side obstacles at the crossroads.
The 2020/2021 Volvo V60 Cross Country also comes with the Clean Air system, dual-zone electronic climate control, driver's memory power seat, whiplash protection in the front seats and much more.
