Genesis has unveiled its electric SUV, named the Electrified GV70, at the Guangzhou Motor Show. The model will appear in Israel in January 2022. The GV70 is the brand’s first electric SUV and the second electric vehicle to be based on an existing model from the company’s range. The first was the Electrified G80 sedan. It also debuted in China at the Shanghai Auto Show six months ago.

Israeli buyers can currently choose between two Genesis SUVs: the GV70 and GV80. The rear-wheel drive GV70 is equipped with a 2.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with 304 hp and an 8-speed automatic transmission. The all-wheel drive GV80 has a 3-liter turbocharged diesel engine with an output of 278 hp.

Exterior and interior

Switching to electric vehicle format has followed the well-established scenario: the new Genesis GV70 electric SUV differs from the original model by a smooth panel instead of a radiator grille that hides a charging port, as well as by the absence of standard exhaust pipes at the back. Consequently, the vehicle body has become more aerodynamic due to new bumpers and rims. The interior has also been slightly modernized: the electric vehicle can afford a lower center tunnel, providing more space for the second row passengers.

The new Genesis Electrified GV70 supports V2L technology, allowing you to connect power consumers with a solid power of up to 3.6 kW. It also has a one-pedal driving mode and a modern Pre-view ECS suspension, which is linked to a camera that scans the road in front of the vehicle. The interior is finished with the trendy eco-materials.

Powertrain

The 2022 Electrified GV70 has a powerful powertrain that uses components from the E-GMP platform. For example, the charging system operates at 800 volts and supports power up to 350 kW. Thanks to it, you can charge the battery from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes. Its capacity is not known, but the promised driving range is up to 400 km, which was measured according to the Korean method, whereas the Chinese standard claims that this indicator is an impressive 500 km, taking into account frequent acceleration and deceleration, as well as low average speed.

As for the drive, even the entry-level Genesis Electrified GV70 is all-wheel drive thanks to two electric motors developing 218 hp each and 350 Nm per axle. There is a boost mode (aka ‘Sport’ mode) that enables the motors to generate 489.5 hp and 700 Nm, while the acceleration to 100 km/h occurs in 4.5 seconds, and this version is faster than a vehicle with a 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 engine. Another advantage is an off-road driving mode e-Terrain. Like the Electrified G80 sedan, the SUV turns off one of the electric motors to conserve power.
