Lexus RX L SUV. 4th generation, 2019 restyling
The new Lexus RX L looks as stylish and dynamic as its short sibling. Only the rear overhang has become longer to provide enough space to comfortably accommodate two more passengers. Otherwise, it is hard to distinguish the long version from the five-seater: the wheelbase remains the same (2,790 mm), and the total length of the vehicle reaches 5,000 mm. The design of the rear end has not changed practically, only the angle of inclination of the rear window has become smaller, and the rear wiper has moved from under the visor to the lower edge of the glass. In 2019, the RX underwent a restyling, becoming even more perfect. The design, driving ability, interior and equipment have been improved.
Exterior
The 2019/2020 Lexus RX L is primarily distinguished by the new fog lights, which have moved to the lower part of the front bumper. Looking closely, you will find that the bumpers, the radiator grille and the taillights have also changed. The LED headlights (fitted to all cars sold in Israel) have a more advanced BladeScan Type AHS, which works more accurately and adapts the light beam faster. The restyled vehicle is 5,000 mm long, 1,895 mm wide and 1,710 mm high. The ground clearance of the SUV is 200 mm.
Interior
First of all, it should be noted that the restyled RX L features a new media system. The screen size has remained (12.3 inches), but it is now touch-sensitive and has a slightly different shape. There are Android Auto and Apple CarPlay functions, as well as voice control. The joystick was replaced by a touchpad, conveniently located on the center console, which helps you control the multimedia system. In all other respects, this is the same modern interior with a noble design and impeccable ergonomics, extremely expensive finishing materials and impeccable build quality.
The second significant innovation is the adjustment of the third row, which has acquired two positions after restyling: it can be moved back, giving more room for passengers, or forward, increasing the volume of the trunk. There is also a 6-seater version: the second row can consist of two separate comfortable seats. As before, the third row is designed for two people, and the backrests are folded 50/50. It is electric and has a separate climate control zone. Safety is ensured by longer curtain airbags that open to the entire length of the passenger compartment. The vehicle has 10 airbags.
Powertrains and chassis
In Israel, the 2020/2021 Lexus RX L comes with a hybrid powertrain. It is based on a 3.5-liter engine. The hybrid system produces 313 hp. Its powertrain consists of a petrol engine, two electric motors and an electromechanical CVT. The vehicle features a MacPherson strut independent suspension at the front and a multi-link suspension at the rear, electric power steering and ventilated disc brakes on all wheels with ABS and EBD.
The manufacturers also took care of improving handling characteristics of the long SUV by making the vehicle body more rigid. For that purpose, they have added more welded points on the seams. Anti-roll bars have become stiffer and 1 mm thicker. Springs, dampers and electric power steering have also been re-tuned for more sophisticated handling.
Equipment
The active safety package has also been improved. The new Lexus RX L ‘knows’ how to recognize cyclists and avoid collisions, and night cameras are able to ‘see’ further. All modern driver assistants are included in the Lexus package. Since 2019, blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert have become standard, and wireless smartphone charging is available as an option.
