On September 14, 2021, the manufacturer presented the upgraded Mazda CX-5. This time, the modernization amounts to a full-fledged restyling. It’s about time, as the current, second generation vehicle has been produced since 2016! By 2023, the CX-5 will be replaced by a new SUV, the CX-50. It will have a classic layout with a longitudinal engine and rear-wheel drive as standard. The car will be larger and more prestigious than the current one. In the meantime, we take delight in the restyled CX-5 SUV with a new body, suspension and gearbox, modern useful functions and better driving comfort. We cannot wait to see the restyled 2021 Mazda CX-5 SUV in Israel! Below you will find more details about it.

Until recently, the second generation Mazda CX-5 of 2016 was sold in Israel. There are both front-wheel drive and 4×4 versions on the market. You can choose a 2.0-liter gasoline engine with 165 hp or a 2.5-liter gasoline engine with 195 hp. The first one accelerates the CX-5 to 189 km/h, while the latter can develop up to 199 km/h. Both are equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission, regardless of the drive.

Exterior and interior

The exterior design of the 2021 Mazda CX-5 has not changed dramatically, but noticeably. The car features new bumpers, more expressive radiator grille pattern, and a new Zircon Sand body color. The SUV comes with the upgraded headlights and taillights, as well as with the modernized adaptive LED lights to provide more precise control over light distribution. There are three new exterior design versions with 19-inch wheels:

  • The Newground features silver trim on bumpers and door moldings, black mirror housings and rims, the grille decorated with green accents. At the same time, the interior is finished in suede with green stitching;
  • The Homura is a sporty version, and Mazda found it appropriate to highlight its nature with black body kit and a radiator grille with red details; the interior comes with black leather seats with red stitching, the steering wheel, gear lever and door panels are also trimmed;
  • The High+ features a solid color scheme and bright, shiny silver wheel rims, while the interior is finished in smooth Nappa leather and shines with a luxurious natural wood texture.

The vehicle now offers Qi wireless charging and the entertainment system screen that has grown to 10.25 inches.

Engines and chassis

The 2021/2022 Mazda CX-5 comes with the upgraded equipment but with the same engines, including 2.0-liter naturally-aspirated engines (150-165 hp), 2.5-liter (190-194 hp) and 2.5 liter turbocharged gasoline engines (230 hp), as well as 2.2 liter turbocharged diesel engines (150 or 184 hp). The engines can be coupled with 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions. The latter has been redesigned for ‘improved responsiveness and smoother shifting’. The manufacturer has also introduced the Mazda Intelligent Drive Select (Mi-Drive) system, which allows the driver to select the most suitable driving mode at the touch of a switch. The all-wheel drive modifications of the SUV, equipped with i-Activ AWD, have received an off-road mode that will help in driving on dirt and slippery roads. Shock performance has also been improved.

Some interior components have also been upgraded, and you can feel it when driving. Thus, the car now offers the improved power structure of the body, suspension and seats, so we can expect a more comfortable ride and a lower noise level. The entry-level CX-5 is supplied to the USA with i-Activ AWD all-wheel drive, whereas other countries will receive front-wheel drive versions as standard. Active safety is complemented by the CTS (Cruising & Traffic Support) system, which is a traffic jam assistant that can accelerate and decelerate the car and keep it in the lane.
