2019 MG EHS SUV. 1st generation
The MG EHS is a five-seater SUV produced by the British brand MG, which has been owned by SAIC (China) since 2007 (as of 2021). It is available in both petrol and plug-in hybrid versions. In 2021, Israeli buyers can purchase the first-generation of the 2020 MG EHS PHEV plug-in hybrid SUV.
Exterior
The new MG EHS is a 5-seater SUV with a spacious and comfortable interior. The vehicle is 4,574 mm long, 1,876 mm wide and 1,664 mm high. The wheelbase is 2,720 mm. The ground clearance is 190 mm. The trunk volume amounts to 463 liters and to 1,287 liters, with the rear seats folded down.
The SUV looks somewhat like the Mazda CX-5. It has a trapezoidal radiator grille with a large octagonal logo in the center and a massive chrome trim. The headlights are similar to the Mazda’s, but the filling is completely new, LED. The optics is adaptive with light sensors. The front bumper is original, with large LED fog lights, edged with chrome.
In profile, the 2019/2020 MG EHS demonstrates flowing lines, convex front and rear wheel arches and black plastic perimeter protection. The roof pillars are also black. Rear-view mirrors are equipped with turn signal repeaters and an electric drive.
At the rear, the SUV features LED optics. The shape of the tailgate with a spoiler is indicative of that there will be no difficulties when loading standard size cargo. The trunk itself has a flat floor. The rear bumper carries a black plastic overlay and has LED fog lights. Several exhaust pipes hint that the vehicle is dynamic.
Interior
The 2020 MG EHS features a large and very noticeable 10.1-inch touchscreen display of the multimedia system, which is an indispensable attribute of modern vehicles. Multimedia uses the Android Auto system. Below are two rectangular heater deflectors with chrome trim. But the side ones are round and look like aircraft turbines.
The central tunnel of the SUV is equipped with a charging panel: USB, 12V socket and wireless charging. Next to it, there is a gear lever and many control buttons for various systems, including the driving mode selector.
The front and rear seats have lateral support, whereas the front seats are equipped with an electric drive for regulation in 8 directions, including an adjustable lumbar support. The second row-seats are designed for three passengers and are quite spacious. The backrests fold in a 60/40 ratio.
Power trains and chassis
Israeli buyers purchase an electric version of the SUV, MG ЕHS PHEV, equipped with a plug-in hybrid system. This version has been produced since October 2020. The manufacturer claims that its battery has a warranty for 8 years or 150,000 km.
The new MG EHS PHEV is a plug-in hybrid vehicle powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine with 162 hp and an electric motor with 122 hp. The total power is 258 hp. The hybrid version accelerates to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds. The capacity of lithium-ion batteries is 16.6 kWh, so the drive range is about 52 km. But since there are two motors, the petrol engine will charge the battery and ensure further driving.
The MG EHS SUV features an independent suspension: the MacPherson strut at the front and a multi-link suspension at the rear. The disc brakes (including ventilated front brakes) are equipped with a wheel lock prevention system and an emergency braking system that independently increases the pressure in the brake line, making it many times faster than a human and stopping the vehicle more effectively.
Equipment
The 2021 MG ЕHS PHEV trim level, which is offered by a dealer in Israel, is called PHEV NET-UP. It includes a lot of equipment. The dashboard comprises a 12.3-inch color display. A leather steering wheel has three spokes and a rim cut from the bottom, functional keys and an engine start button. Moreover, the steering wheel is height and reach adjustable. The list of options continues with 2-zone climate control, rain and light sensors, and all-round view parking cameras.
Safety is ensured by the following components: six airbags, electronic stability control system, traction control, adaptive cruise control, which can stop the vehicle in the event of obstacles from behind or in front, a lane keeping assist system that corrects the driving direction and other electronics.
