Porsche Macan SUV. 1st generation, 2018 restyling
The Porsche Macan is a luxury compact SUV by Porsche AG (Germany). It has been produced since 2013. You can currently purchase the first generation SUV, the restyled version of which (2018) is offered by Israeli dealers.
The restyled 2018/2019 Porsche Macan has a three-dimensional LED strip between the taillights, standard LED headlights and an optional Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS Plus), which adapts the light distribution to the driving conditions. The developers have significantly improved design, comfort level, communications and driving dynamics. The vehicle comes with the new advanced Porsche Communication Management multimedia system featuring a 10.9-inch touchscreen display. This is a brief summary, and you’ll find more details below.
Exterior
The 2018/2019 Porsche Macan is 4,686-4,696 mm long, 1,923 mm wide and 1,624 mm high. The wheelbase is 2,807 mm. The trunk volume ranges from 500 liters to 1,500 liters (with the backseat folded down). The changes are immediately seen when you look at the rear end, as the taillights are now three-dimensional and connected by a continuous LED strip, like the Cayenne and Panamera. The vehicle comes with redesigned bumpers and standard LED headlights. The front face has been improved and looks even wider. There are new exterior colors (Mamba Green Metallic, Dolomit Silver Metallic, Miami Blue and Crayon) that expand the scope for customization.
The Macan is a very dynamic vehicle. The redesigned suspension improves driving pleasure and comfort. The new Porsche Macan is fitted with different size tires, typical of a sports car. This allows optimum using of the dynamic advantages of the intelligent four-wheel drive Porsche Traction Management (PTM). New tires with improved properties provide an even higher level of lateral dynamics. Wheel diameters range from 18 inches (standard) to 21 inches.
Interior and equipment
The interior of the 2019/2020 Porsche Macan has been changed even more. Thus, the vehicle has acquired the redesigned front panel, while the central ventilation vents are now located not on the sides of the multimedia screen, but under it. The biggest innovation is the 10.9-inch widescreen display of the media system (instead of the previous 7-inch one). Voice control, navigation and real-time traffic information are standard. The vehicle offers an application for smartphones and an Internet access point. 3-zone climate control is also standard. The interior is trimmed with ‘soft’ plastic, natural leather, Alcantara and aluminum. The options include: BOSE Surround Sound and Burmester High End Surround Sound, a GT steering wheel from a 911 coupe, an interior air ionizer for better air purification.
The new traffic jam assistant uses adaptive cruise control, which allows you to drive comfortably and calmly at speeds below 60 km/h. The system can not only semi-automatically accelerate and brake the vehicle, but also help keep it within its lane in traffic jams or slow traffic.
When ordering the Sport Chrono Package, a Rotary Drive Switch with a Sport Response Button appears on the steering wheel, which briefly mobilizes all the reserves of the powertrain, for example, for fast overtaking. The entry-level version of the 2020/2021 Porsche Macan includes front and side airbags, curtain airbags, emergency braking assistance, ESP/TCS systems, all-round cameras, blind spot monitoring system and lane keeping assist, traffic sign recognition and more equipment. Euro NCAP has awarded the SUV a maximum 5-star rating.
Engines, chassis and modifications
In 2021, Israeli buyers can purchase the Porsche Macan with petrol engines, a 7-speed automated transmission and four-wheel drive. As a reminder, due to the diesel emissions scandal, Porsche has discontinued the diesel Macan models.
Modifications:
- The entry-level Porsche Macan: 2-liter turbocharged engine with 252 hp. It accelerates to 100 km in 6.7 seconds, and the maximum speed is 227 km/h.
- Porsche Macan S: 3.0-liter twin-turbo TFSI engine producing 354 hp. Acceleration to 100 km occurs in 5.1 seconds, and the maximum speed is 254 km/h.
- Porsche Macan GTS: 2.9-liter V6 biturbo engine with 380 hp. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h occurs in 4.9 seconds, and the maximum speed is 261 km/h.
The restyled Porsche Macan is equipped with new wheels and a slightly changed chassis. The front axle features spring-loaded aluminum forks instead of the old steel parts, reducing the unsprung weight by about 1.5 kg. The new anti-roll bar setting provides more neutral steering. In addition to the standard spring-link suspension, the SUV can be equipped with air suspension, which has also been optimized for improved handling and comfort. The ground clearance level varies from 180 to 230 mm. Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) adjusts the damping of the shock absorbers depending on the road conditions and driving style. The intelligent Torque Vectoring Plus system improves handling on various types of surfaces.
The upgraded braking system has acquired a metal-plastic pedal and a shortened lever that transmits force to the main brake cylinder in order to accelerate the response to braking and more accurate dosing of the braking force. The Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) is optional.
