The 1st generation Cupra Ateca SUV. 2020 restyling
The Cupra Ateca is a compact 5-seater SUV, produced since 2018 by SEAT (Spain) under the independent Cupra brand. Ateca is the first model of the new brand, built on the basis of the SEAT model of the same name, the first sports SUV from the CUPRA brand. The market currently offers the first generation SUV, restyled in 2020 (as of 2021).
In 2018, Cupra was spun off from SEAT and became another brand in the large Volkswagen family. Cupra Ateca differs from the original SEAT Ateca by its powerful engine, all-wheel drive transmission, a long list of equipment and gorgeous interior. This is a completely different vehicle, produced under its own brand.
Distinctive features of the 2020 restyling
The upgraded Cupra Ateca SUV was presented in 2020 immediately after its SEAT brother. It is 4,386 mm long, 1,841 mm wide, 1,599 mm high, and has a wheelbase of 2,630 mm. The volume of the trunk compartment reaches 485 liters. The bumpers and the radiator grille now look slightly different. The basic equipment includes front LED headlights. The front air intakes are more aggressive.
The passenger compartment of the 2020/2021 Cupra Ateca is equipped with an advanced multimedia system with a screen enlarged to 9.2 inches, which recognizes voice commands and supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The graphics of the virtual dashboard are slightly different. The steering wheel has a new set of ‘quick’ buttons, and paddle shifters have become bigger.
Two additional buttons on the steering wheel are very functional. When you press the left button for the first time, it immediately switches your vehicle to the extreme driving mode called Cupra. Press it again to choose the remaining modes (Normal, Sport, Individual, Offroad, Snow). The right button starts and stops the engine. The basic equipment includes DCC adaptive suspension and 19-inch wheels. As an option, you can install reinforced Brembo brakes and Akrapovic exhaust system with a brutal audio quality.
Engines
The new Cupra Ateca is still equipped with a 2.0 TSI gasoline turbo engine producing 300 hp and 400 Nm of torque. It has a DSG-7 semi-automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive with a clutch for connecting the rear axle. Its maximum speed has remained practically unchanged, amounting to 247 km/h. However, the optimized settings made it possible to significantly reduce the acceleration time, allowing the vehicle to accelerate to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds instead of the previous 5.2 seconds. The dynamics of the upgraded SUV has become much better.
Trim levels
On the European market, the new Cupra Ateca comes with a sunroof, tinted glass, front sports seats in metallic color, roof rails, LED headlights with adaptive lighting, and R19 wheels.
The basic equipment of the European 2021 Cupra Ateca models includes a 360-degree camera, a full range of airbags (including the unique one between the front seats), adaptive cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, automatic parking system, lane departure warning system, traffic sign recognition system, collision avoidance system, navigation, front passenger entertainment system, heated front seats and side mirrors, advanced power pack, 3-zone climate control, multi-steering wheel, keyless access, hands-free trunk door opening system and much more.
