2020 Chery Tiggo E Electric SUV. 1st generation
Chery has been recently creating a lot electric cars, aiming to win over a large share of this promising market, competing in the low-cost segment with other Chinese automakers. One of the latest creations is the Chery Tiggo e (瑞 虎), an electric SUV, a version of the gasoline Chery Tiggo 4, presented as one of the restyling results. The electric vehicle was unveiled at the Shanghai Motor Show in 2019. In October 2020, a production version of the Chery Tiggo E appeared on the world market. Interestingly, these vehicles have already been discontinued in China, but are still being sold.
We are not sure whether this SUV will arrive in Israel, but the model is promising, primarily due to its price. It is safe to say that this electric SUV is highly competitive in its class. In China, its cost starts from 100 thousand yuan, which is approximately equal to 16 thousand dollars.
The quality of Chinese vehicles is constantly improving, and they are currently very close to their foreign competitors. This is confirmed by the international authoritative agency J.D. Power. The difference between Chinese and foreign vehicles averaged 5-10 problems per “hundred”. At the same time, Chinese vehicles demonstrate improvements in all parameters. According to J.D. Power, every year the quality of Chinese vehicles increases by 10%.
Exterior
The new Chery Tiggo E looks very standard. This is an exemplary modest and inexpensive SUV, which draws your attention not with its beauty or power, but with its price. The electric version differs from the Tiggo 4 by a different front end, bumpers, LED headlights and a small ‘E’ badge at the rear end. By the way, the vehicle features the chrome-plated exhaust outlets, which were probably chosen for economic reasons. The Tiggo E is a compact SUV, 4,358 mm long, 1,830 mm wide and 1,670 mm high. The wheelbase is 2,630 mm, and the ground clearance is 161 mm. The curb weight is 1,560 kg.
Interior and equipment
The electric version features a new larger touchscreen and a large center console without the usual gear lever, a panoramic roof, but without a sunroof. Like the majority of Chinese vehicles, the 2021 Chery Tiggo E is richly equipped with advanced technologies, including a keyless entry system, one-button engine start, electronic handbrake, and a driving mode selection system.
Powertrain and chassis
The new Chery Tiggo E features front and rear MacPherson double-wishbone four-wheel independent suspension. The electric vehicle is equipped with a 53.6 kWh battery, which is capable of providing a driving range of 401 km according to the Chinese NEDC cycle. The electric motor develops an output of 95 kW (127 hp) and a torque of 250 Nm. The maximum speed is 160 km/h, while the acceleration to the first 100 km/h is about 7 seconds.
The Chery Tiggo E is charged through the charging port located in the center of the front end of the vehicle. The SUV can be also charged at home via a wall box designed for the on-board charger, which will take about 8 hours. A fast charger is capable of charging up to 80% of the capacity in half an hour.
