2018 Renault Megane RS Hatchback. 4th generation
The Renault Megane RS is a hot hatch based on a production car. In 2019, its more aggressive version, Trophy-R, set the Nürburgring lap record in the front-wheel drive category. Thus, the car traveled 20.6 km in 7 minutes and 40.1 seconds. By the way, this crazy racing car is based on the 300-Trophy modification, which is now officially sold in Israel. Moreover, French rescuers were presented with a Renault Megane RS without an engine to practice the skill of extracting victims from a wrecked car. The manufacturer considered this model interesting enough to attract attention.
Israeli buyers can purchase the top-end 300-Trophy version with 300 hp, equipped with a 6-speed robotic gearbox and a torque vectoring system that brakes the inside wheels when turning to improve handling. Plus, the car comes with a mechanical Torsen limited slip differential on the front axle, stiffer suspension and 19-inch wheels. The declared average fuel consumption is 8.6 liters within the combined cycle. Acceleration to 100 km/h occurs in 5.7 seconds.
Exterior
The new Renault Megane RS is a 5-door hatchback with formidable combat bumpers, an aggressive front splitter inspired by Formula 1 cars, and a massive exhaust pipe in the center at the rear. Holes in the front fenders improve aerodynamics, as the new hot hatch was literally ‘blown out’ in a wind tunnel. The car has 18-inch beautiful lightweight wheels as standard or 19-inch Jerez brand wheels for a fee (standard for the Israeli version). The exterior is enhanced by the LED fog lamps in the front bumper, reminiscent of the Renault Sport logo (checkered flag). The car is 4,372 mm long, 1,847 mm wide and 1,445 mm high. The wheelbase is 2,669 mm.
Interior and equipment
The 2021 Renault Megane RS for Israel has a long list of equipment: climate control and a BOSE SURROUND sound system, an 8.7-inch media system and a set of electronic assistants. These include: adaptive cruise control, automatic braking system, pedestrian identification and tracking markings, as well as a rear-view camera.
Engines
The sporty Megane is equipped with a 1.8-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder direct injection engine. The basic equipment includes a fully controlled chassis called ‘4Control’, which can turn the rear wheels 2.7 degrees in the opposite direction to the front wheels, or the rear wheels up to 1 degree in the same direction as the front wheels. The sports car has five driving modes to choose from (MULTISENSE system): Comfort, Neutral, Sport, Racing and Personal, which can be customized.
Israeli buyers can purchase the Renault Megan RS 300-Trophy with 300 hp and 390 Nm, 6-speed EDC dual-clutch robotic gearbox, equipped with gearshift paddles and a launch control function. The model is front-wheel drive, featuring a McPherson strut suspension at the front and a torsion beam at the rear. The 300-Trophy version accelerates to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds.
