In April 2021, Volkswagen presented an upgraded sixth generation Volkswagen Polo hatchback in Europe. According to the manufacturer, this is a car ‘for those who want to enjoy all the Volkswagen qualities in a compact and maneuverable vehicle without sacrificing space and usability’. We have explored the new Polo and now we want to share our impressions with you.

Exterior

On video: Volkswagen Polo 2021 year. Mini.

The restyled hatchback looks more modern and ‘adult’, even more reminiscent of an ‘older’ Golf: it has a body shape with a similar glazing line and fully LED optics (for a surcharge, it can be a matrix IQ.Light), accentuated by a horizontal LED strip, playing the role of daytime running lights. The rear end features new, larger taillights with additional sections on the fifth door.

Interior

The interior of the 2021 Volkswagen Polo looks more stylish and expensive. It features higher-quality finishing materials, a modern digital dashboard (even in the entry-level version), a multimedia system with navigation and support for Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, a climate control sensor unit, wireless charging for gadgets and a panoramic roof.

Powertrains

The engine range of cars for Europe has been narrowed. Now there are petrol engines, including a 1.0-liter MPI naturally aspirated engine with 80 hp and a 1.0-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder engines with 95 and 110 hp. However a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder unit with 150 hp is no longer available. The car comes with a 5-speed manual transmission or 7-speed dual-clutch DSG. In Israel, the car will be offered in several versions: with a 1.0 liter engine with 110 hp and a DSG, as well as a 95 hp engine and a semi-automatic or manual transmission. The engines are equipped with a start-stop system. Fuel consumption for cars with a manual transmission amounts to 5.5 liters per 100 km in a combined cycle, whereas the semi-automatic transmission versions consume 5.9 liters.

Equipment

After the restyling, the new 2021/2022 Volkswagen Polo has acquired premium features, including a road autopilot, digital dashboard and matrix headlights. Safety is also enhanced by an expanded set of IQ.Drive Travel Assist electronics, which, among other things, includes a road autopilot that can keep the car in the center of the lane and independently keep the distance from the vehicle in front.

The trim level of the Israeli versions (Comfortline) includes: 6 airbags, a multimedia system with an 8-inch color touchscreen and an integrated Blue Tooth headset, a rearview camera with a parking assistant, Front Assist system, adaptive cruise control and active lane keeping assist.
