The Volkswagen Multivan is a front-wheel drive minibus, a luxury passenger version of the Transporter commercial van, produced since 1950. In 1980, the manufacturer presented the Multivan based on the third generation Transporter. According to the manufacturer, this model has served as a reference in its class for decades. In 2019, the sixth generation car was restyled. In 2021, Israeli buyers can choose from two upgraded versions: a minivan and its long version.

Exterior

The 2019/2020 Volkswagen Multivan minivan is 4,904 mm long, 1,904 mm wide and 1,970 mm high. The wheelbase is exactly 3 meters. The car is designed in compliance with the latest (at the moment) version of Volkswagen’s corporate style, for which it underwent restyling in February 2019. The restyled models are distinguished by a slightly modified design of the front face with narrower headlights (expensive trim levels offer LED headlights), a completely new instrument cluster, as well as an electromechanical power steering, which made it possible to expand the list of auxiliary electronics with a lane keeping assist system and a parking assistant. There are six wheel rim designs to choose from. The color range has acquired six new shades, as well as seven two-tone combinations.

Interior

During the restyling, the developers slightly changed the dimensions of the body, thereby increasing the trunk volume. The changes also touched the opening system itself. As a result, the lock was modernized, allowing the owner to open the door faster and easier. The new steering wheel has received more control keys following an increase in the number of optional equipment itself.

‘We have redesigned the driver’s seat in the spirit of digital time and integrated a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit into the T6.1, which is even earlier than on some of the company’s passenger cars’
Albert Kirzinger, VW Chief Designer

The interior is transformable: the second row seats rotate 180 degrees, and the third row can be folded down and the car can be used as a cargo van for transporting such large loads as furniture. The table in the center of the cabin can be used as a surface for work or eating, it can also be folded and placed between the two seats in the second row (Highline trim level).

Powertrains

The new Volkswagen Multivan minivan is equipped with modern, powerful and fuel-efficient 2-liter TDI turbocharged diesel engines with a capacity of 150 or 199 horsepower, which are paired with a 7-speed DSG. The car has front-wheel drive and independent suspensions.

Equipment

Israeli buyers can choose from two trim levels of the 2020/2021 Volkswagen Multivan minivan: Comfortline and Highline. Since the restyling in 2019, the list of standard equipment includes digital dashboard, adaptive cruise control and park assist, as well as crosswind stabilization.

Even the basic Comfortline version of the new Multivan is equipped with a comprehensive safety package, which includes adaptive cruise control system, automatic distance control system with autonomous braking, blind spot monitoring system and lane keeping assist system with rear motion detection.

Moreover, the safety package includes 4 airbags (6 for the Highline version), stability control and traction control, hill start assist, electronic differential lock, brake assist, tire pressure monitoring system and driver status monitoring system. To make parking easier and safer, the Multivan 6.1 also features a reversing camera, front and rear sensors and an automatic parking system.

Is it possible to improve something that is already close to perfection?
