Polestar 2. 1st generation, 2023 restyling
The Polestar 2 liftback is a fully electric 5-seater model produced since 2020 by Polestar, founded by Volvo together with Geely. It is officially sold in the USA, China and some European countries (Sweden, Norway, Germany and the UK). In 2023, the first generation car was updated. The restyled car is rear-wheel drive and offers new engines. The new Polestar 2 will become more ‘long-range’, while all modifications will receive the Smart Zone safety system. The updated electric vehicles can already be ordered from dealers in Europe, although deliveries will only begin in the third quarter of 2023.
The Polestar 2 shares a platform with the Volvo XC40 compact SUV, which is sold in Israel, including, in electric and plug-in hybrid versions, as well as with the Volvo C40 electric subcompact SUV. And their modernization was similar!
Exterior
It is easy to distinguish the 2023 restyled Polestar 2 from the previous car by the blank SmartZone panel. It got her name for carrying a camera and adaptive cruise control radar. Of special note are spectacular wheels (with a diameter of 19 or 20 inches to choose from) on the side.
Interior
The interior is the same, but the car is better equipped as standard, including wireless charging for smartphones, all-round cameras and a lane keeping assist system. There are new trim options. The range of materials made from recycled materials has been expanded, but at the same time the upholstery in Nappa leather has appeared. Finally, the efficiency of the heat pump in the climate system has been improved.
Powertrains
The entry-level Polestar 2 with one engine, the Standard Range Single Motor, is driven by an electric motor, which is now installed on the rear axle and can produce 272 hp and 490 Nm, which is more than the previous figures (231 hp and 330 Nm). Therefore, the car has become more dynamic: such a liftback accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds. In addition, the Standard Range has a new LG Chem traction battery with a capacity of 69 kWh instead of the previous 64 kWh, while the driving range has increased from 474 to 518 km (within the WLTP cycle), and the power of the DC charger has been increased from 115 to 130 kW. In Europe, such a Polestar 2 costs from 44,000 euros.
The Long Range Single Motor version with a 78-kilowatt battery and single motor has also become more powerful and faster, and the Long Range Dual Motor version produces 421 hp against the previous 408 hp. Moreover, the front electric motor is now able to connect only when necessary. As for the top-end Performance version, it has changed less than the others: the power is the same 476 hp, but the torque has increased, and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h occurs in 4.2 seconds (versus the previous 4.4 seconds).
