2019 Renault Clio hatchback. 5th generation
In 2022, the manufacturer introduced a basic modification with a 90 hp engine.
The Renault Clio is a subcompact front-wheel drive five-door hatchback. Israeli buyers can purchase the fifth generation of the 2019 hatchback with two engines to choose from and in four trim levels (as of 2021).
Exterior
Renault’s new compact model looks beautiful, proportional and eye-catching: an “energetic” front face with “complex” headlights, a branded radiator grille and a large air intake in an embossed bumper, a sporty silhouette with a strongly inclined windshield, a sloping roof, expressive sides and hidden rear door handles, harmonious stern with graceful lights and a convex bumper.
The sports version of the car is called the RS Line and has a developed body kit and original 17-inch rims. The 2019/2020 Renault Clio is bigger than previous models: it is 4,047 mm long, 1,728 mm wide, 1,437 mm high, and has a decent wheelbase of 2,583 mm.
Interior
The interior of the new Renault Clio is elegant, modern and solid, featuring a 9.3-inch ‘tablet’ of the infotainment system, under which there are the secondary function control keys and three control displays of the air conditioning system. A three-spoke multi-steering wheel with an embossed rim and a virtual instrument cluster (7 or 10 inches) successfully complement the interior of the car.
By default, the car has a five-seat layout, providing enough free space on both rows of seats. The front passenger can enjoy ergonomic seats with unobtrusive lateral support and sufficient adjustment ranges (option: sports chairs with bright bolsters on the sides), and the rear passengers can sit on a comfortable backseat. The trunk has the correct shape and a decent useful volume: 391 liters in normal condition. The second row seats are folded in a 60:40 ratio, thus increasing the volume up to 1,069 liters.
Engines and transmissions
The 2019/2020 hatchback has a wide range of power units, combined exclusively with a front-wheel drive transmission. Israeli buyers can choose from two options, in particular turbocharged petrol direct injection engines with an exhaust manifold integrated into the cylinder head and optimized cooling channels. The choice is between a 1.0 liter petrol 3-cylinder engine (100 hp at 5,000 rpm and 160 Nm of torque at 2,750 rpm) or a 1.3-liter 4-cylinder (130 hp at 5,000 rpm and 240 Nm of torque at 1,600 rpm).
Three-cylinder engines are combined with a 5-speed manual transmission or X-tronic CVT, and the petrol four-cylinder engine comes exclusively with an EDC 7-speed semi-automatic transmission with two clutches. With a junior engine and manual transmission, acceleration from 0-100 km/h occurs in 12.5 seconds, while the top speed is 188 km/h. The car equipped with the CVT accelerates in 11.5 seconds and develops 182 km/h. The most powerful engine makes it possible to accelerate in 9 seconds and to develop 200 km/h.
The fifth generation Renault is based on a front-wheel drive CMF-B platform with a transversely located power unit and a monocoque body, characterized by a high content of high-strength steel in the structure. The front axle is equipped with the MacPherson strut independent suspension, while the rear part features a semi-independent torsion beam suspension. The power steering is electric. The 2020 Clio is equipped with ventilated front disc brakes. Moreover, the models equipped with the manual transmission have drum brakes at the rear, and all other models are equipped with disc brakes.
Trim levels and equipment
The simplest Intense trim level provides: six airbags, ABS, EBD, ESC, LED headlights, fog lights, DRL, air conditioning, A-IVI multimedia system compatible with Apple Carplay/Android Auto with a 7-inch touchscreen and 6 speakers, 16-inch alloy wheels, ‘glass - mirrors’ power pack, rain and light sensors, front and rear parking sensors, rear view camera. The safety systems are represented by the AEB (Autonomous Emergency Braking), lane departure warning system, HSA, ESP, etc.
The top-end RS LINE trim level differs in terms of its exterior (17-inch wheels and aerodynamic body kit), interior (more expensive interior design) and equipment. The RS LINE includes the following options: all-round cameras, A-IVI multimedia system compatible with Apple Carplay/Android Auto with a 9.3-inch touchscreen, parking assistant, Multisense system (allows the driver to change the driving style depending on their preference: engine response control, steering wheel effort, backlight color selection and more), electric handbrake, adaptive headlights, active lane departure control, and blind spot scanners.
