Renault Sandero RS. Hot Latino
The Renault Sandero RS is a sporty version of the Sandero compact hatchback, first unveiled by Renault at the 2015 Buenos Aires Auto Show. The RS hatchback was the first model developed by Renault Sport outside Europe for fans of the brand from Latin America. Sales of new models started in Brazil in early 2016, and later the car continued its journey to other countries of the continent. There is no sports modification for the Israeli market.
The Sandero RS is a popular hatchback made by Renault Sport. The compact model features a 2-liter engine producing 145 hp and 198 Nm. The car accelerates to 100 km/h in 8.4 seconds, while the maximum speed is 200 km/h. When powered by ethanol, these figures are even higher: 150 hp and 205 Nm, and acceleration to 100 km/h will take 8 seconds with a maximum speed of 202 km/h. It can also be distinguished from the standard Sandero by a black roof spoiler, twin tailpipes, black headliners, red seats and carbon-look trim on the doors. Prices in Brazil start at 17.71 thousand dollars.
Exterior
The exterior of the Renault Sandero RS looks sporty: an aerodynamic body kit along the bottom of the body, LED strips of running lights, a spoiler on the fifth door and a double-barrel exhaust system. And of course, the dashing wheels are 16 or 17-inch alloy wheels, dressed in sports tires.
Interior
The interior looks similar to that of a regular Sandero, but with RS nameplate. The sporty front seats offer excellent lateral support, while the steering wheel is also ‘a la sport’. And such interesting details as aluminum pedal covers and scarlet inserts on the dashboard and seats complement the picture. The passenger compartment of the sports hatchback is suitable for five people (including the driver), and the trunk volume reaches 320 liters.
Engines
The new Renault Sandero RS is equipped with a 2-liter 4-cylinder naturally aspirated engine that produces 145 hp (150 hp on ethanol) and is combined with a 6-speed manual transmission. The model is front-wheel drive. The hatchback’s suspension is almost identical to that of a regular Sandero, with MacPherson strut suspension at the front and a torsion bar suspension at the rear. Difference lies in their adjustments. The front and rear brakes are disc (front - ventilated). There is a stability control system with a sports algorithm and the ability to turn it off. In 2017, the manufacturer introduced the Racing Spirit version (a total of 1,500 cars), which had a slightly different design.
2019 restyling
The restyled 2019/2020 Renault Sandero RS received new LED taillights, for which the designers even had to change the fifth door and the cover under the rear bumper. The updated car features new 17-inch wheel rims and door moldings with the Renault Sport inscription. Brake calipers are now painted red, following the example of the Racing Spirit Special Edition. The front face is the same as it was initially cute.
The interior remains practically unchanged. There are updated seats, and the armrests and door cards now have a carbon-like design. There are also no changes from a technical point of view. The basic equipment of the 2021 Renault Sandero RS includes an RS Drive system with three driving modes (Standard, Sport and Sport+), a Media Nav Evolution infotainment system, air conditioning, a rear view camera and cruise control.
