BMW 5 Series Sedan. 7th generation, 2020 restyling
BMW 5 Series are E-class cars, which have been produced by BMW (Germany) since 1972. They belong to business class. In 2021, Israeli buyers could find the seventh generation 5 Series sedan, restyled in 2020.
In addition to visual changes, the restyled BMW 5 Series have acquired modern technologies and a new plug-in hybrid modification. The restyled version has retained its size: the 2020 5 Series 4-door 5-seater sedan is still spacious and comfortable. It is 4,936 mm long and 1,868 mm wide, while its wheelbase is large, reaching 2,975 mm, which made it possible to achieve a roomy interior. The volume of the trunk is 410 liters.
Distinctive features
As for exterior, the car can boast of a modernized front face. The sedan’s lines have become stricter, the headlights, grille and bumper have changed. In our opinion, now it looks a little more similar to the new 3 Series. The rear is almost the same as before, with the exception for the taillights, which now have a different shape and filling.
The interior of the 2020 restyled BMW 5 Series has not changed much. However, the car has comprised new advanced technologies. For example, there is the advanced iDrive 7 media system with a new operating system. The diagonal of the central display can now be 10.25 or 12.3 inches, while the digital dashboard can offer 12.3 inches, depending on the trim level. The systems support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Modifications
The 2020 restyled version is primarily distinguished by the 48-volt starter-generator, which is now installed on all cars with 4- and 6-cylinder internal combustion engines. When accelerating, this system adds 11 hp.
In Israel, the new BMW 5 Series comes with a 292 hp plug-in hybrid power system. The electric motor is used at low speeds in Hybrid mode, and if you need to drive at high speeds or quickly accelerate, the petrol engine comes into play. The petrol engine is a 2-liter turbocharged engine, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Only the rear-wheel drive version is available. The car is equipped with a 12 kW/h lithium-ion battery. The manufacturer claims that the drive range is 56 km. The maximum speed developed by the sedan reaches 235 km/h, while acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h occurs in 5.9 seconds.
There is also a new version, called the 545e xDrive. It combines a 286-hp inline-six-cylinder engine with a 109-hp electric motor. The total power is 394 hp and 600 Nm. The 540d xDrive model has a 340-hp diesel engine. As for the output of the 540i, it has decreased from 340 to 333 hp. The rest of the modifications have retained the same performance, but all of the above models are not yet supplied to Israel.
Trim levels
All new 5 Series models sold in Israel feature tinted windows, sunroof, interior lighting, faux leather interior, hands-free trunk opening and LED headlights.
The list of basic equipment of the 2020/2021 BMW 5 Series sedan includes 6 airbags, rear and/or all-round camera, cruise control, front and rear parking sensors and automatic parking system, driving mode selection system, pedestrian and cyclist detection system, collision avoidance system, driver fatigue sensor, and lane departure warning system.
Such elements as a multimedia system compatible with Carplay and voice control, navigation, front seat entertainment system, 12-speaker audio system, 2-zone climate control, multi-steering wheel, keyless entry, light and rain sensors complete the image of a modern and comfortable 2021 BMW 5 Series sedan.
