Skoda Fabia. ‘Fabulous’
In May 2021, the fourth generation of the hatchback was released.
Skoda Fabia is a B-class front-wheel drive car from the Czech automaker Škoda Auto, which has been produced since 1999. It had different bodies in different years of release: a sedan, a 5-door station wagon, and a 5-door hatchback. The name ‘Fabia’ is formed from the first syllable of the word ‘Fabulous’, which means amazing, and the ending ‘ia’ is characteristic of Skoda cars.
Three generations of the Skoda Fabia have been in the market in 2020. The latest generation after restyling in 2018 is available for Israeli buyers in the 5-doors Hatchback body.
First generation
The first generation of Skoda Fabia, which appeared in 1999, replaced the previously released Skoda Felicia model, which was discontinued. The first Fabia is based on the Volkswagen A04 platform, shared with the Volkswagen Polo and SEAT Ibiza. The success of the Fabia was determined by the fact that all mechanical parts were developed by Volkswagen, and the price of the first generation of Skoda Fabia was significantly lower than its analogs. The first restyling of 2004 gave Fabia a new front bumper, headlights, and taillights. There are new color combinations and trim levels. The first generation of Skoda Fabia was produced until 2007.
Second generation
The second generation of Skoda Fabia, which appeared in 2007 and was produced until 2015, also used the Volkswagen A04 platform but became a little larger in size. The author of the new body project was a famous Czech designer. The production of the Fabia sedan has been discontinued since 2008. Only the station wagon and the hatchback remained. The Fabia Combi 2 station wagon became longer, taller, and got a larger trunk of 480 liters. The restyling in 2010 brought the second Fabia a new grille, wide three-dimensional faceted headlights, new horizontal lines of the front of the car. And the second generation of Fabia also received new wheels and a new range of body colors.
Third generation
The third generation Skoda Fabia appeared in 2014 and is still produced. It was restyled in 2018. The third Fabia is made in the new Skoda corporate style - emotional, sharp, and sporty. A new clear-cut crystal shape creates a unique play of light and shadow, while an elegant cut of the headlights and taillights in the style of Bohemian glass complements the beautiful appearance of the third generation Skoda Fabia.
Euro NCAP awarded the third generation Fabia as the best passive safety car in its class for 2014.
The proportions of the car have also changed, the new Fabia has become slightly lower and has grown in width. There is more useful space for passengers and baggage. The third-generation Fabia is the first Škoda car equipped with the MirrorLink system to link a smartphone and a multimedia system. This makes it easy to use the navigation and music applications of the smartphone. On the other hand, the car can transfer data such as fuel consumption or average speed to a dedicated smartphone app. Euro NCAP also awarded the third generation Fabia as the best passive safety car in its class for 2014.
Restyling 2018
The restyled version of the 2018 Skoda Fabia received a representative body design, the changes affected the front of the car, and deep longitudinal stampings appeared on its sides. The innovative trend of the horizontal line under the windows cannot be unnoticed.
The changed dimensions shortened the body of the new Skoda Fabia 2018 hatchback by 8 mm and made it 31 mm lower. The head optics have been enlarged and modified, LED running lights in the form of neat horizontal stripes are placed below each headlight. The roof of the new hatchback, continuing, becomes a kind of visor, partially covering the luggage compartment door. The updated 2018 Fabia has a more roomy interior and a noticeably increased luggage compartment.
