2020 GMC Yukon SUV. 5th generation
The GMC Yukon is a full-size body-on-frame SUV, which has been produced by GMC (USA) from 1992 to the present. In 2021, Israeli buyers can purchase the fifth generation of the 2020 SUV.
The Yukon is one of the few SUVs built on the cargo platform. This provides excellent traction and cross-country ability, but, on the other hand, makes the vehicle too bulky, reduces dynamics and mobility. GMC tried to eliminate these shortcomings in the fifth generation, while making the Yukon even larger (although, it seemed impossible…).
Ennobled mastodon
The fifth generation GMC Yukon is 15 cm longer than the previous one, exceeding the five-meter mark, and, according to happy users, three two-meter-tall people can easily fit on any car seat (one at a time, of course).
The volume of the Yukon’s trunk, in turn, has exceeded 3 cubic meters, which, together with the lowered floor of the cargo compartment, makes it possible to transport heavy and massive things, such as a bundle of firewood for the whole winter and a hitchhiker bear when you get a chance to meet one.
Overall, the 2020 GMC Yukon looks more like a large SUV than a truck playing a role of a passenger car and, in addition to its exterior, the manufacturer has managed to improve agility and fuel-efficiency. The latter will be important for almost any person who loves off-road mastodons, which, as you know, consume fuel like a small African country during the banana harvest.
Engines and chassis
Despite the fact that the Yukon already has its fifth generation, GMC specialists found an opportunity to make changes to the basic design. So, for the first time, they equipped the Yukon with an independent rear suspension. This makes it possible not to demolish bumps and obstacles, as usual, but to overcome them elegantly, just like a real car.
GMC has also equipped the Yukon with an air suspension system that allows for the road clearance adjustment within 10 cm, which is important, especially if you are escaping the Sinaloa cartel chase by pulling off the highway into corn meadows.
The new GMC Yukon comes with petrol V-8 engines: a 5.3 liter engine producing 355 hp and a 6.2 liter engine producing 420 hp. There is also a 3 liter diesel engine producing 277 hp. All the engines are coupled with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle can be rear- or all-wheel drive.
Versions
The AT4 is a new modification introduced in 2020. It is higher in class than the SLT, but not in terms of luxury, like the Denali. Instead, it offers better cross-country ability and functionality. The Yukon AT4 is only four-wheel drive, has a raised lower part of the bumper, a powerful protection under the engine compartment, two towing hooks, and a push-button transmission selector.
The AT4 also has adaptive suspension dampers, hill descent control, a two-stage active transfer case, heated steering wheel, heated second-row seats and many additional options such as rear pedestrian warning, all-round camera systems, electronic limited slip differential, sensors pressure in the tires for the trailer.
The Denali is powered by a 6.2-liter, 420-hp eight-cylinder engine coupled with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The standard drive for Denali is rear-wheel. The vehicle has a navigation system, an audio system with 14 speakers, adaptive cruise control, a digital rear-view mirror, electric side steps and more.
As for the less advanced versions, they are also well equipped. The basic SLE offers 18-inch wheels, keyless entry and ignition, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible devices, and a collision warning device that uses the brakes in extreme situations.
The SLT version features 20-inch wheels, heated and ventilated front seats, wireless charger, advanced navigation system, and rear-seat passenger entertainment system with two 12.6-inch displays. Plus, each version comes with several packages of additional options that can satisfy all possible automotive demands of drivers and passengers.
