Toyota + Suzuki = eVX
In January 2023, the concept of Suzuki’s first electric vehicle called eVX was unveiled at the 2023 Auto Expo in Delhi (India). Why India? Well, Suzuki’s electric first-born is being produced there by the Maruti Suzuki joint venture. The novelty is made according to the formula: Toyota + Suzuki = eVX. The vehicle is based on the Toyota e-TNGA platform, and the Blade series lithium-iron-phosphate batteries are supplied from China (by BYD). The first electric Suzuki will be sold not only in India, but also in Europe and Asia.
Production of Suzuki's electric SUV will begin no earlier than 2025. As in the case of electric SUVs, the Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra, the new eVX will be sold under two brands: Suzuki and Toyota.
What does it look like?
It is already known that the Suzuki eVX will be slightly larger than the Suzuki Vitara SUV available in Israel. The new electric vehicle is closer in size to the Suzuki SX4: length – 4,300 mm, width – 1,800 mm, height – 1,600 mm. But the wheelbase, as befits the electric vehicles, turned out to be noticeably longer: 2,700 mm (versus 2,600 mm).
Technical details
The future electric vehicle has inherited a simplified e-TNGA platform, which is designed by Toyota with Subaru for front, rear or all-wheel drive electric vehicles. The platform provides for the installation of a wide range of electric motors and batteries. The e-TNGA has a fixed distance from the front axle to the engine shield, as well as the width of the fasteners for the battery packs, front and rear electric motors. The Suzuki eVX will be offered with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. The battery capacity is promised to be 48 or 60 kWh, while the driving range with a more capacious battery will be about 550 km (according to the Indian MIDC cycle).
