2017 Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid Liftback. 2nd generation
Toyota Prius Plug-In is a front-wheel drive hybrid passenger car produced by Toyota (Japan) since 2015. Its an M-class liftback vehicle. The Prius Plug-In is a version of the basic Toyota Prius with a larger battery that can be recharged from an external power source. In 2017, the second generation Toyota Prius Plug-In was introduced to the market. In 2020, it could be purchased in Israel.
The new liftback is 4,645 mm long and 1,760 mm wide, with a 2,700 mm wheelbase. The 2017/2018 Prius Plug-In can easily seat five people. The trunk volume reaches 360 litres.
Exterior
The exterior of the new Prius Plug-In differs from the basic Prius in terms of its front face design. The large volumetric elements form the radiator grille and bumper ends, comprising vertical daytime running lights. The ultra-compact LED headlights are located on top of the fenders. The 2017/2018 Prius Plug-In has a longer rear end, a lower spoiler and new two-tone wheels. The trunk door is made of carbon fiber, with a concave glass that repeats the shape of the spoiler, and this door is 40% lighter than a similar aluminum one.
Interior
The interior of the 2019 Prius Plug-In has remained practically the same. The rear seat is now two-seater with separate seats and a console in between. Due to the large battery, the trunk floor is raised by 160 millimeters, which reduces its volume to 360 liters. Instead of a spare wheel, the trunk contains a puncture repair kit, just like the previous generation Plug-In model. A special suspension ensures a good steering response. It uses special front and rear springs and dampers and a more powerful rear stabilizer.
Modifications
In Israel, the 2019/2020 Toyota Prius Plug-In comes with a 98 hp hybrid system running on petrol and electricity. It is equipped with an automatic transmission. The maximum speed developed by the Prius Plug-In liftback is 162 km/h. And its average fuel consumption is fantastic: 1.3 liters per 100 km.
The new battery of the second Plug-In has an increased capacity and allows it to travel in electric mode up to 68 kilometers at a speed of up to 135 km/h. It takes just 20 minutes to bring its charge to 80% at the fast charging station and from 2 to 14 hours to fully charge the vehicle from a household power supply network, depending on the voltage and permissible current.
Trim levels
There is only one trim level (Standart) of the 2020 Toyota Prius Plug-In for the Israeli market. It includes a full package of airbags, except for the knee airbag, tire pressure sensor, immobilizer, central locking, rear view camera, and the adaptive cruise control.
