Volvo S90. Scandinavian representation of luxury
The Volvo S90 is a top-of-the-line sedan of the Е class from the Swedish manufacturer Volvo produced since 1996. It may be FWD or 4WD. The car also has hybrid versions. As of 2020, the market of Israel offers the second generation 2016.
The first generation of the S90 is a completely different car. The S series appeared in 1996 after the restyling of the Volvo 960. At that time, the name was changed to S90 for the sedan version and to V90 for the estate version. The new nomenclature defines the type of the car where the ‘S’ designates the sedan and the ‘V’ is used for the estate.
First generation
The first-generation Volvo S90 was only produced for two years between 1996 and 1998. Perhaps this was due to the purchase of the car branch of Volvo by the Ford group. Or there were other reasons to cease production. However, in 1998, the Swedes presented a new sedan called S80, which replaced the 90 series. It was a front-wheel drive generation, based on a different platform and with different equipment.
Second generation
The second-generation Volvo S90 first appeared 18 years later thanks to Chinese investors. In 2016, Volvo launched a completely different premium sedan that competed with Audi, Mercedes and BMW in its segment. Only the name S90 remained from the previous generation. The new car was presented at the Auto Show in Detroit. It is based on the well-known SPA platform that is used for all Volvo cars of the 90 and 60 series, including the Volvo ХС90. The second generation Volvo S90 is equipped with the Drive-E series gasoline/diesel engines and the hybrid version. Compared to the S80, the Volvo S90 has the front end advanced by 150 mm and the windshield moved 200 mm backward.
The Swedes claim that today the S90 is the most expensive, coolest and most high-tech Volvo car.
The car has new headlights in the shape of the ‘Thor’s Mjollnir’ and different taillights. Another feature is the bumper appendages specific to each version. The car has almost no physical buttons. This is no wonder because Volvo is moving very fast in high technology and future. The LCD dashboard and the multimedia screen add sobriety and individuality to the premium sedan. The Swedes claim that today the S90 is the most expensive, coolest and most high-tech Volvo car.
Even the standard version of the Volvo S90 is well-equipped and has every possible safety system that the Swedish company is famous for. For example, City Safety is a system that includes automatic braking, anti-collision, pedestrian and large animal detection, and lane correction with automatic maneuvering assistance. The Pilot Assist system is a power steering system that keeps the car in the middle of its lane and at speeds below 130 km/h on well-marked roads.
In 2016, the Volvo S90 wins the Production Car Design award. In 2017 the new Volvo S90 is titled the Safest Car according to the Euro NCAP results. If you want to stand out on the road, Volvo S90 2020 is the car for you!
