BMW X5. A luxury SUV
BMW X5 is a mid-size 4WD crossover from the German BMW, produced since 1999. ‘X’ means ‘4WD’ and ‘5’ implies that the model is based on BMW 5 Series. Every forth sold BMW is a car of the X series. And it all started with X5! On the today’s Israeli market, the fourth generation of SUV BMW X5 from the model year of 2018 is available.
First generation
The first generation of BMW X5 was produced from 1999 to 2006, restyled in 2003. The first X5 was designed when BMW Group already owned the Land Rover brand. Therefore, the first BMW SUV had much in common with the Renge Rover L322, such as the Hill Descent and Off Road systems. But, unlike the Range Rover, the first X5 was designed as a sports car, and its off-road driving capabilities were much less than those of the Land Rover. In 2003, the X5 carried over the restyling and began to gain popularity and collect prestigious awards as a luxury SUV.
Second generation
The second generation of BMW X5 was produced from 2006 to 2013, restyled in 2010. The second X5 has become larger, more comfortable, and more advanced in terms of technical equipment. The crossover received modern electronic systems, including active steering, electronic shock absorbers, adjustable stabilizers, air suspension of the rear axle. In 2010, during the restyling of the second generation X5, the front and rear optics, front bumper, and fenders were changed. Of course, the range of engines and transmissions has been changed as well.
Third generation
The third generation of BMW X5 was produced from 2013 to 2018. The third-generation Х5 was assambled on the modernized platform for the second generation, so it had the same size, suspension design, and optional third row of seats as the former Х5 did. The third-generation Х5 was only equipped with turbocharged engines. In whole, the premium crossover became better, faster, lighter, and more advanced.
Fourth generation
The fourth-generation BMW X5 is produced since 2018. The new BMW X5 has moved to a new modular platform CLAR, noticeably changed externally and became even more technologically advanced and ‘smart’. Its bodywork has become lighter and stiffer by combining different grades of steel and aluminum. Dimensions of X5 2018/2019 became larger, and the wheelbase has ‘grown’ longer. The new X5 crossover has noticeably increased ‘nostrils’ with a chrome-plated insert, the grille has been enlarged, the relief stampings appeared on the body. Due to metal folds on the sides of the body and sloped stamping over the arches that emphasize the big wheels, the fourth generation crossover began to look sportier and more aggressive than the previous X5. Now Israeli customers can choose not only the basic version of the BMW X5, but also its sports modification - M Sport.
