The Aiways U6 is an electric SUV, which has been produced by Aiways since 2021. Back in 2020, the new electric vehicle existed in the form of the Aiways U6ion concept, but now it is already a full-fledged electric SUV, although, it is actually a redesigned first model of the Aiways U5. The new U6 is a coupe-SUV, with fairly typical exterior styling and an almost luxury interior. The U6 and the U5 are primarily distinguished by the exterior.

A number of sources indicate that the new Aiways U6 is ambitiously aimed at competing with the BMW X6, but this is more of a joke or a marketing gimmick to attract attention. Although, of course, the U6 can easily beat the BMW, but only by its more attractive price. In fact, the prospects for the U6 are almost directly related to the dynamics of sales for the U5. Aiways generally presents these models as a ‘pair’ and exports them to the EU, hoping to advance due to the interest in futuristic electric cars.

Exterior

The 2021 Aiways U6 profile is not particularly remarkable. It is a coupe with a sloping roof, well-balanced front and rear, compressed sides. All the elements are well-designed and clearly inspired by European experts, with whom Aiways collaborates.

The front face of the electric SUV can probably even be called original. With its closed panel instead of a radiator, it somewhat resembles a car for the Dirt Track Racing, modified to be an electric vehicle. Just as the U5, the SUV features narrow LEDs with giant cooling grilles for the brake system below. It also has vertical ‘wings’ on the sides and a rear spoiler. The new Aiways U6 is said to have impressive aerodynamic performance (coefficient 0.27) and light weight.

Interior

The interior of the U6 is designed to compete with the luxury interiors of the segment leaders. The interior is well-built and ergonomic. The vehicle has an open ‘aircraft type’ steering wheel. The only question is, will it be efficient in an extreme situation when you need to steer quickly?

The controls are concentrated on a 7-inch floating display. There is also a 14.6-inch touchscreen display inside, which is controlled by a robot head inserted above the monitor. The robot is able to hear and speak, provides entertainment functions and a number of useful options such as navigation.

The 2021/2022 Aiways U6 has such options as cruise control, lane departure warning system and highway assistance, remote parking function. The trunk is vast, and perhaps even has a place to store an electric scooter.

Powertrain

The Aiways U6 has the same powertrain as that of the U5, featuring one engine and a battery. The 150 kW electric motor (equivalent to approx. 204 hp) delivers 310 Nm of torque. It is powered by a 63 kWh battery. The expected driving range is over 400 km under ideal conditions with a consumption of 16.8 kWh/100 km. In practice, the average consumption is closer to 22.9 kW/h per 100 km and the driving range is up to 280 km. The new Aiways U6 is equipped with two types of charging: 6.6 kW or 90 kW. The manufacturer promises that it will take you 10 hours to fully charge your vehicle at home or 35 minutes to charge up to 80% of the capacity at fast charging stations.

Which Aiways U would you choose: 5 or 6?
