The Nissan X-Trail is a compact SUV, which has been produced by Nissan Motor (Japan) since 2000. It can be five- or seven-seater. The third generation X-Trail was released in 2013, and it was restyled in 2017. In Israel, the SUV is available in 4 trim levels with different engines and transmissions (as of 2021).

Exterior

Compared to the previous generation, the third Nissan X-Trail has become larger. It is 4,640 mm long, 1,820 mm wide and 1,715 mm high. The wheelbase is 2,705 mm. The ground clearance has decreased by 5 mm (it is 204 mm for Israeli versions). The car is based on a modern platform and thanks to the long wheelbase it can accommodate the third row of seats. The 2017/2018 restyled X-Trail has never looked so stylish, dramatically different from its square-like predecessors.

The restyled SUV features a front face inspired by a new corporate style: with an enlarged radiator grille and a large chrome applique in the shape of the letter V. The shape of the optics has changed, and the optional LED headlights have become adaptive and are now noticeably different from the standard halogen ones. Rectangular fog lights have replaced the previous round ones. The taillights are modern and LED. The side lights are lit with check marks, while the chrome inserts have been removed. The new 17- and 18-inch wheels are also eye-catching.

Interior

It is important to note that the new Nissan X-Trail remains primarily a versatile family car. The interior is spacious and comfortable enough, featuring many compartments for things, superb chrome and leather trim, 90 degree opening door, longitude- and tilt-adjustable backseat, and multilevel trunk floor.

After the restyling, the SUV has acquired a three-spoke steering wheel with the truncated bottom, characteristic of all modern Nissan models. Both the steering wheel and seats in the first and second rows can be optionally heated . The interior trim has become more comfortable: the armrest, lining of the central tunnel and the front panel section in front of the passenger are covered with leather. And the frames around the ventilation deflectors are made of glossy plastic.

Those who choose the most expensive Tekna trim level can order a two-tone black and brown interior trim and Bose audio system with eight speakers. According to the company, it is the best system that has ever been installed on the Nissan models for the European market. The shape of the trunk has been changed: its volume under the rack has been increased from 550 to 565 liters.

Powertrains and chassis

In Israel, the vehicle comes with a 1.3-liter turbocharged petrol engine (160 hp) and a 1.7 turbocharged diesel engine (150 hp). The petrol versions are available only with front-wheel drive, but diesel ones have four-wheel drive.

The SUV is equipped with a MacPherson strut front independent suspension and a rear multi-link suspension. There are ventilated disc brakes and electric power steering.

Trim levels and equipment

The 2020 Nissan X-Trail has acquired LED optics, an extended active safety system, and has become much more advanced. Safety is ensured by 10 airbags, antilock brake system and brake force distribution system. There is also a tire pressure monitoring system. The driver can rely on a dynamic stability control system, traction control system and a high-beam control system.

The SUV has received an expanded set of technologies as part of the Nissan Intelligent Mobility concept:

  • Intelligent blind spot monitoring system sends an audible warning if another vehicle is in the blind spot;
  • Intelligent driver fatigue control system measures the level of concentration and warns of the need to stop and rest;
  • Intelligent around view system combines images from four cameras from the rear, front and sides of the vehicle to create a top view to make parking easier;
  • Intelligent parking assist allows the driver to release the steering wheel during parking, only by pressing the pedals and changing the position of the gearbox selector;
  • Reverse collision warning system warns the driver of vehicles moving perpendicular to the reversing Nissan X-Trail;
  • Tire pressure monitoring system warns of a drop in tire pressure;
  • Intelligent adaptive headlights change the angle of illumination following the turn of the steering wheel;
  • Hands-free trunk opening system is triggered by foot movement;
  • Intelligent obstacle recognition system detects metal objects and helps the driver avoid collisions with the vehicle in front.

Trim levels (in any of them the vehicle can be either 5- or 7-seater):

  • Acenta: Cruise control, 2-zone climate control, 6-speaker audio system, on-board computer with color screen, multifunction steering wheel, rain and light sensors, front and rear parking sensors, electric mirrors and sunroof, LED running lights; 6 airbags, front distance cruise control, emergency braking, including pedestrian detection, traffic sign detection and lane departure warning systems. There is a 1.3 liter turbocharged petrol engine, coupled with a dual-clutch semi-automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. The fuel consumption is 8.2-8.3 l/100 km.
  • Acenta Plus: 4 all-round cameras, NissanConnect infotainment system, 18-inch alloy wheels, electric parking brake. There are more driver assistants: automatic engine braking, trajectory optimization, hill start assist, automatic switching of low/high beam. There is a 1.7-liter turbocharged diesel engine, coupled with a CVT and front-wheel drive. The fuel consumption is 7.1 l/100 km.
  • Acenta-tech: Blind spot monitoring system, driver fatigue detection system, rear cross traffic detection, and automatic parking assist. There is a 1.3 liter turbocharged petrol engine, coupled with a dual-clutch semi-automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. The fuel consumption is 7.3-7.5 l/100 km.
  • Tekna: BOSE audio system with 8 speakers, leather interior, keyless entry, heated steering wheel, electric and heated front seats, LED adaptive headlights with washer, electric trunk, and 19-inch wheels. How do you feel about such systems as Nissan Intelligent Mobility, which are now installed on many cars?
